Those that got rid of the binky…..

How did you do it? What age was your DC?

He only gets it at naps and bedtime.

I just stopped....I thought he would have a problem, but he was FINE, thank goodness. He was about a year, maybe a little younger.

You never know till you try, and this is something I was totally dreading.Chat Icon

Re: Those that got rid of the binky…..

DS just turned two but he still wakes in the middle of the night crying. I am not sure if its from his 2 year molars that he didnt get yet. Should I wait until he gets them or should I just do it already?

Have you ever tried to get rid of it? Does he only take it for naps/nighttime? My dr said that as long as he only takes it to sleep, its really not bad.

Re: Those that got rid of the binky…..

We did it the day of her 18 month doc appointment. The doc said we needed to get rid of it, so we did - that night! It took a night or two of crying for 10 minutes, but she got over it and never asked for it since.

No I haven't. Yes he only takes it to sleep. I think it will be easier than I think. He is not a good sleeper at night so I think I am just dreading him not having the binky and making him a worse sleeper KWIM? He adjusts really well to change. I took him off the bottle and moved him to a toddler bed with no problems.

My DS became a better sleeper without it. I used to hear him tossing and turning. He'd wake up often crying. It was becasue he'd wake up looking for it all the time. As soon as I took it away, he started completely sleeping through the night and if he did wake up on his own, he was able to just roll over and go back to sleep. It got sooo much better!

Re: Those that got rid of the binky…..

My DD never took one but both my boys did and got rid of it a little older than 2 years old. They were the same, bed & naptime. How old is he? I think by the time they are older than 10 months, it's very difficult to get rid of it until they are a bit older. At least that's been my experience or what I've learned from other parents with binky kids. The 1-2 year range seems to be the hardest time to get rid of it. Both my boys gave it up very easy (well not easy the first night but after that was easy), they sort of understand more than when they are younger and just want it and don't understand why you are taking it away.

Good luck with it, he might surprise you. My DS #2 was very very attached to having it so he surprised me.
