Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
I'm scheduled to have an induction starting with Cervidil tomorrow evening. I'm now researching the drug online. My cousin swears this made her child have brain damage......But then again she blames vaccinations also........Did any of you have any problems with it??

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
I had this but half way through they stopped it because it was causing the baby distress. I am really not sure what was going on because it was in the middle of the night and I was past out on demerol! They just woke me when they removed it and that is what they said.

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
Friend/lurker on the board had cervidil 3-4 times but it didn't work. At 7months, her daughter is clearly a genius. No brain damage at all.
Tell cousin to stop stressing you out.

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
I was induced due to low amniotic fluid on my due date. At that time I was 1-2cm dilated and 50% effaced. I was admitted into the hospital at 4:00 on Thursday. I had the first round of cervidil at 6:00pm. The first round did not work for me. My doctor checked me the next morning and decided to give me a break. The second round of cevidil was administered at 6:00pm on Friday. This round worked and by 11:00pm, I was feeling painful contractions. I had an epi at 4:00am and pitocin at 6:00am. My doctor broke my bag of water at 10:00am but there was pretty much nothing left. I had my son at 2:30pm on Saturday. I have no regrets about the induction process.
My son is very healthy. Don't worry. Good Luck.

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
I was admitted to be induced at 7:30pm and given Cervidil at 8:30pm, around 10pm hubby left and I went to sleep. Someone came in the wee hours to check on things but nothing was happening and I continued to sleep until around 8am. The Cervidil did not do its job as it didn't even soften my cervix. They started the Pitocin anyway, after a few hours and still nothing, the baby did not like certain positions I was in and his heart rate would drop so they scheduled a c-section.
I never heard about Cervidil causing brain damage, thats pretty scary.
So far Aidan is a happy normal child

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
I received Cervadil at 10 pm on a Wednesday night, they started the pitocin for me at 10 am and by 11:00pm on Thursday my baby was born.
I was already 75% effaced and 1-2 cm dilated (I think I was closer to 1)
I had a totally fine experience with it with no ill effects on my little pumpkin!
GOOD LUCK

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
Yikes!! That is scary!!
I had three...yep, THREE doses of Cervidil. The last dose didn't go the full 12 hrs though.
Thankfully, my baby was fine but I did end up with a c/s because I spiked a fever and other things. Also, I can honestly say, in my experience that the contractions I had on Cervidil were worse than my "real" contractions, with no drugs and even with Pitocin, once real labor started. The reason is because with the Cervidil, I felt like my uterus was constantly contracted...after 12++ hrs of that, it becomes exhausting and really painful. When I started having real contractions, there was a HUGE difference. A real contraction has a peak and then it ENDS and you get a few minutes rest before the next one comes. I felt like with the cervidil there was no rest.
To be honest, I don't think I'd ever do Cervidil again. I rather go natural or schedule a C/S. I'm sorry, I don't mean to scare you, this was just MY experience. Remember I had 3 doses where as most women only need 1. After just 1 full 12 hour dose, I was really okay. It was at the end of the 2nd and into the third that I wanted to someone to bash me over the head and put me out of my misery. Don't let them do three doses if you can avoid it.
Good luck with your induction and feel free to FM if you have any questions.

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
I had it both labors and my kids seem to be fine.
The first time it caused contractions, but still needed the pit to regulate my contractions. My second pregnancy, I just needed the cervidil (although I was starting labor on my own right before my scheduled induction) and I went in to full labor.
ETS Both inductions I was either barely dilated or not at all and same for the effacing. I think it's important to discuss with your OB the outcome of induction and that just because you are being induced doesn't mean it will happen instantly.

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
I had cervidil to induce and Sarah is just fine. Totally healthy according to her doctor, and my brother's girlfriend is a speech pathologist and she said she's advanced for her age.
Don't worry, everything will be fine!

Re: Those that had Cervidil used during Induction
never heard of this before, i'm sure there are risks with it, just as there are risks in crossing a street, but i never heard brain damage, maybe it was another component that caused it rather than the cervidil. get that cervidil and have that baby
