When you work a half day do you pay them for the whole day or half?

We paid my mom by the hour. So she got paid for only what she worked.

We pay my dad a flat fee each week no matter what days he watches her. Some days, we have to pick her up later, and we dont' pay him much to begin with so it all works out to be a really fair price.
If I'm off for an entire week, and she's home with me, then we dont' pay him that week.
