Those that use Gonal-f or Follistim pens
So I just got a call from my RE telling me that I need to increase my dosage of Gonal F. The current pen I am working on is almost empty. What happens if there is not enough in the pen for the higher dose? How will I know? I have a new pen to start, but want to finish this one first.
ETA: I missed the call, so they left me a VM or else I would have asked them this myself

I'm confused. You still use the same pen; you just will be inserting a new liquid vile. Is this what you mean?
You can try and turn the pen for the amount that is needed; just in case you do have enough for one more shot.
If not, discard the inside cartridge (vial) and replace with it with a new one.

when i had too little for an entire dose i either split the dose with what was left in the current vial, then inserted the new vial and did the rest, or i just started fresh with a new vial. obviously if you split the dose you have to stick yourself twice and change the needle tip twice so its easier just to go to the new vial if you can.

its important when you start to keep track of what you have available and what you use. For me I would have to use some of one and then the rest from the new one

This...I also got an instruction sheet on Gonal F and the 2nd page has exact instructions on how to complete a dose with a new pen.

this had happen to me and I was told that the pens may have more meds in it so once lets say I was told to give 300 I dialed to 300 and pushed down and the pen may have stopped at 100 meaning I got 200 and then with the new pen I used a 100 ( it requires 2 sticks) but worth it when your're paying out of pocket. As the nurse she had share it with me

I've brought the used but not empty Gonal-F pens back to Dr. B's. Then the nurse made syringes for me in the right amounts using the leftovers.
