those who delivered at LIJ i have a question about somting..
we were told at lamaze that only the dh and if i wanted one more person with me are allowed in the room and on the floor of delivery.Everyone else has to wait downstairs and that they give you this buzzer thing and my dh can call down to them and tell them any progress or when i give birth. Now i told my mom this whole thing. She calls and says your aunt called and when her sister was delivering they had a special place to wiat right by some elevators that you could see the baby eing wheeled down to the nursey? Who is right? BTW my aunt i stalking at least 4 or 5 years ago

Re: those who delivered at LIJ i have a question about somting..
I would go by what the hospital says. Even if they have that waiting area they might not announce it because they might not want so many people in the waiting area when the baby is being wheeled upstairs. I delievered at Winthrop and I was also told that only DH was aloud in delivery with and if necessary another person. My mom, sister and the godfather were in the waiting room which is on the same floor as L&D but they me that they would only see the baby for a minute. Well after I delivered and was all cleaned up they asked if Iwanted my family to come in so it was nice because they got to spend like 10 minutes with DS. Their was also noone else in the waiting room so that could have been also why. Alot of things could have changed from 5 years ago.

Re: those who delivered at LIJ i have a question about somting..
Well, I know my dad wanted to come up into the delivery room to see me before I gave birth and I was told he couldn't come in the room unless he was plannning to be there for the birth. I was like...ummm...no way...
Meanwhile, my sister had given birth 3 days earlier in North Shore and we could all go in the room before she delivered. The waiting room situation is much better there.
I think my parents did wait downstairs by the elevators, but after DD was born, and while I was in recovery, they did see her upstairs in the nursery.

LIJ only allows 2 people in the room - the rest have to wait downstairs.

2 in the room and they are adament about it, even when nothing was going on and I was being induced. You can wait in the area near the elevators, but there is no where to sit and you can maybe see the baby when it goes into the nursery but only for a second.

my ONE complaint about the whole thing at LIJ...although they did let my Dad up right after before she headed to the NICU...it was 1am.

I delivered at LIJ last month and 2 people are allowed in the delivery room with you. My entire family was waiting on the 3rd floor by the elevators - there are no chairs though and after I gave birth and was cleaned up - thye let everyone in the room to see me and the baby for 5 minutes. I think it really depends on how busy they are and who is on shift at that time. FM me if you want any further info.
