Those who have an Epi Pen - Question
My epi is about to expire soon. Thank goodness I've never had to use it.
What did you did if you never used your epi and need a new one? Did you tell your doctor and he wrote a new prescription? Then what did you do with the one that expired? Can it go in regular trash, even though it's a prescription and has a needle?
TIA

Re: Those who have an Epi Pen - Question
Yes, I carry an epi pen, there have been times when I did have to use them, but my doctor always prescribes 3 so I have extra. Like you said, when they expire, I just tell my doctor and he writes a new prescription for me. I usually use the expired ones on an orange and break off the needle and throw it in the regular garbage.

Re: Those who have an Epi Pen - Question
The doctor has to give you a new prescription. Since it has needle, it should not be thrown in the trash. You can either take it back to any pharmacy or your doctor's office where they have special needles receptacles for proper disposal. And glad you didn't have to use it.

Re: Those who have an Epi Pen - Question
thanks.
Thats a good idea to use the expired one on an orange and then break off the needle.
I am so afraid of ever having to use it. The idea of jabbing myself in the leg just freaks me out.
I am deathly allergic to shrimp (according to my tests) but I have never **knock on wood** had a reaction and I eat shrimp all the time (shhh dont tell my dr.) and Dr. gave it to me "just in case of emergency"

Jackie I didnt even know you could bring them back to any pharmacy. But I think I'll bring it back to my doctors office. Much safer and they do have the special things for needles.
Thanks

Re: Those who have an Epi Pen - Question
Yes you should bring it to your Dr. or local hospital. You shouldn't throw it away because 1) Its a sharp and 2) Most medications that expire are really still good. If you bring them to the right place, they will send your expired meds to third world countries where the people there can get meds they wouldn't normally be able to get.
