Is there a way to buy gift cards for the book uploads?
Would I just get an Amazon Gift card?

yes you can get a gift card and then go to your account online and apply the gift card to your account. then it will draw from your gift card balance until you run out. the faq section on the kindle explains it if that didn't make sense.
