Those who rocked their infants to sleep

For all the BTDT moms who rocked their DC to sleep when they were infants, when did you stop? How did you stop?

DS is almost 4 months old but weights about 18lbs! So I know that this cant go on forever. At around 8:30 I swaddle him with a blanket and bounce/rock him until his little eyes close, (which is really the hardest part) then I sit in the glider for about 10 minutes sometimes less and put him down in his crib by 9 and he sleeps until 7:30 am. If he wakes up in the middle of the night (sometimes to pass gas or poop) I hear him talk, grunt and then he puts himself back to sleep. He doesnt take a pacifier. Thanks!!!!!!

I still rock her in the glider & give her the last bottle & read stories, YET I make sure she's in the crib still awake. You can still do all you're doing, but put him in b4 he's out.

Re: Those who rocked their infants to sleep

See I do love that time but he has started fighting with me when I am trying to get him to sleep, he tries to wiggle out of the swaddle and my arms "complaining" not really crying but complaining.
So I thought maybe its time to start THINKING about how to break this habit.

Did you do this from day 1?

He can do without the swaddle because really the swaddle was because he would wake himself up with his hands when you put him down. Now half the time he is out of the swaddle with in 20 minutes anyway.

Re: Those who rocked their infants to sleep

we either rocked ds to sleep or used his bouncer... I started CIO at 6 months, took us 3 nights, no problem with falling asleep since then...

I have rocked my son (10 months old) since day 1. I recently started wondering about the transition and I asked the BTDT mom's here...got some really good information abour how they transitioned...I'll bump it for you.

Re: Those who rocked their infants to sleep

Thanks! I am also curious because DS wont sleep for my ILs who watch him while I am at work. Although he will nap for me. So I am thinking of starting to try to transition in hopes that he will start napping for them too if he is used to putting himself to sleep and not being rocked

See Christopher will not just fall asleep in his bouncer or anything (except the swing sometimes) to him he plays in those so when he gets tired he wants out of those things.

Do they rock him to sleep? DS naps at daycare as long as they follow my schedule (it was cute because they never believed that he slept until they tried my schedule...then whalla!)

Re: Those who rocked their infants to sleep

They rock him but I do think a lot of it has to do with schedule and because they will just hold him. They feel bad because they know he needs the sleep so they try to put him down but he wakes up so they hold him because they know he will sleep longer. So its a bad cycle. I am a mean mommy because I want him to understand I will not hold him to nap so I put him down, if he wakes up, I rock him and he goes back down, if he wakes up again, oh well then I guess the nap is over. I figure if he is really tired he will get it and go to sleep.
When I was home with him he took a 30-45 minute nap in his swing in the am, and then he took a 2-3 hour nap in his crib at 3pm. I think with them he is sleeping 20-30 minutes here or there and they arent getting good stretches so then at 7 he will fall asleep again for 30 minutes.
