Those who work in the city.. when did your Dr suggest that you stop working?

My Dr suggested I stop working at 36 weeks because I work in the city & if anything happened it would take me an hour to get back home. I was planning to work until 38- 38 1/2 weeks.

My doctor left it up to me but told me that once I was more than 2cm she would push me to reconsider.

I worked in the city with DS #1 up until about 39 weeks and then went to work in our LI office. Thursday of my that same week I went in because of contractions and my doctor asked me to not go in at all...even to the LI office. Two days later I had DS at 39w6d.

With my first DD my doctor told me to stop at my 38 week appt.

I worked in the city when I was preggo with DD #1. I commuted until 39 weeks and worked the last week (which wound up being 2 weeks since she did not want to come out) from home.

I really don't think you should "plan" a date ahead of time. You should base it on how you feel. You could feel great until 39 weeks and then even deliver late and not dilate a centimeter...in which case if you leave 4 weeks early you're using up valuable maternity leave or vacation time. I live in and work in the city, but it was a 40 minute subway ride from my apt to my job, and if I had gone into labor at work, it could have been a 30 minute subway ride up to my hospital, but it's not like I was going to have the baby right after my contractions started, you could have minor contractions for hours. I worked until 39 weeks and 4 days because I felt fine until then and wound up being induced the next week. Had I gone out earlier just because I COULD have gone into labor, I would have been sitting home twiddling my thumbs. I would say just work as long as you can at the time.

I'm almost 35 weeks and my Dr. hasn't mentioned anything yet about when I should stop commuting.

My commute averages between an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and 45 minute but, the hospital is halfway in between.

I figure I'm going to go as long as I feel good enough to and then I'm going to work from home.

My company makes me leave at 36 weeks. With DD#1 I remember it being perfect timing. I started feeling very tired and out of breath by then. But I was also living in Brooklyn, so my commute wasn't as long as it is now. If it is not paid time off by your company, maybe wait until you are closer and see how you feel?

My doctor hasnt said anything to me about when to stop working. Maybe once he starts internals and sees If im dilated at all he will recommend me to stop. I plan on working as long as I can.

Same as your doctor - he told me not to travel more than 30 miles or an hour away from home/hospital after 36 weeks. Which ended up being a good thing since my water broke and I went into labor at 36 weeks 2 days!!

ETA: My Dr knew I could work at our office in LI if I didn't go to the city, so it wasn't that he said I had to stop working, just making the almost 2 hour each way commute.

My commute is 2 hrs door-to-door one way. The dr. suggested at 36 weeks. But he suggested it more because I already have high-blood pressure and thought the commute will be stressful at that point.

I want to come in as long as I can and then try to get my jobs to let me work from home until it's time for me to go. I don't want to waste any maternity leave time.
