those who work with autistic kids one more question....
my son will be 8 in January. when should i tell him that he has Aspergers? i don't want him to feel abnormal and he takes everything so literally. i've been skating around the issue for years now i have a book that is appropriate for him to read i just don't know if now is the appropriate time to tell him.

I would say that if he expresses any of the "Asbergers related issues" to you (i.e. inability to socialize like other kids), then it's time. You want him to know that it's not his fault that he has problems. Also, you can emphasize that children/people with Asbergers are very smart, and have gifts that others don't If he's not expressing concern about related issues, I'd wait until he does. Good luck! It's not easy!
BTW-FM if you want to talk more about school.
