Those whose dc have peanut allergies?
I just found out that DD is allergic to peanuts. I am so freaked out because I am now starting to read labels and I can't believe how many things that don't contain peanuts have been made in factories that process peanuts. Things I thought were safe such as chocolate chips, I have realized have been made in these factories.
How strict is everyone with these things, in respect to being processed in a plant that also processes peanuts? I had given her chocolate chips cookies that I made that I thought were safe until I read the label. She had no reaction but now I am so paranoid about everything she eats.

Re: Those whose dc have peanut allergies?
My friend's dd has a peanut allergy and she will give her things that are made in a factory or on a line that also processes peanuts. She's never had a reaction, but she has a mild allergy.
My son has a severe dairy allergy and I will not give him anything that I know was made on a line or in a facility that also processes dairy.
You might want to sign up for allergy alerts from the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network They will let you know when a company notifies them that something was sent out without an allergy alert on the packaging.
I also refer to FAAN's how to read a label when grocery shopping.

You're welcome! It's very overwhelming at first, but after a while it's like second nature.
Let me know if you are looking for food allergy forums, they were helpful to me in the beginning.

Re: Those whose dc have peanut allergies?
I like Kids With Food Allergies You have to become a member to access the forums, but it's only $25 a year and well worth it IMO. I have emailed them about an ingredient I wasn't sure about and they got back to me within an hour.
I used to be on Babycenter Food Allergy board but haven't really been on since they changed the board format a few months back. No real reason, just haven't needed to be on there recently.
