Those with a convection oven?
Do you really notice a difference in cook times? And how well the food is cooked? I've been reading lots of reviews on line, but cant decide if the extra money for a convection oven is worth it? TIA!!

Re: Those with a convection oven?
I have a convection oven (it was here when I bought my house) but I don't really use it very often. It definitely cooks things more quickly, though, so you can't go by the cook times provided in recipes.

It shaves off the pre-heat time. that's about the only difference I've noticed.

For mine it depends on what feature you use. Regular Baking cooks the same.
However I have a Convection Roast button I use on the turkey for Thanksgiving and reduces the time by hours. But it also roasts evenly while keeping the meat very moist so I prefer it. I just make sure I time it right so its not done too early.

We have a convection oven that was here when we bought the house. To be honest, we never use it because I hate having to figure out what temperature to convert the conventional directions to.

It definitely cooks things faster and I find it makes things crispier (potatoes, breaded items, etc.).
I do not use the convection for everything though.
I love it!

Re: Those with a convection oven?
I have convection. I set the temp according to whatever recipe I am making and my oven auto-adjusts the temp for convection. (it's minus 25 degrees)
Convection is really meant for items that are out in the open, like a flat tray of cookies, so that the warm air can circulate all around what your cooking. If you have something in a dutch oven, as an example, convection won't really do much at all.
Things bake slightly faster when I use convection but nothing crazy fast.

Those with a convection oven?
Convection is faster because its heating evenly. We notice a huge difference. Just look at your box as most instructions will provide alternate settings for convection. Rule of them is 10-15% less time at the same temperature setting.
I recommend it after being on the fence with it as we could of downgraded for 100 bucks of the same model.
