Those with Levittown Ranches...UPDATE w/ before & After Pics of Fireplace
Those who own a Levittown Ranch do you know if the support beam on the first floor goes through the fireplace?

Re: Those with Levittown Ranches...UPDATE
I'm updating because we removed the fireplace and there is a beam going through the chimney but you will have to add extra support.

Are you opening up your kitchen? We were thinking of removing the fireplace to put in an island.

Yes! The entire fireplace and brick wall that was attached was removed yesterday--upstairs too!
It opens the house soooo much! I put am putting an island to divide the two rooms but will place it more in the kitchen. When I get home later I will take a picture and post it.

Re: Those with Levittown Ranches...UPDATE
i grew up in a Levitt home and would love to see a pic too! it must look so open!!!
question though, is your oil burner on the wall with the fireplace? ours was suspended from the ceiling attached to the fireplace wall - across from the stove. i suppose you're going to relocate it though..
again, i'd love to see pics!!

Our house was converted to gas a while ago and the burner was moved to the garage.
When we moved in the washing machine was still in the kitchen against the brick wall. I had that relocated to the garage and added a base cabinet. Now that cabinet is going to act as an island and I am going to replace the countertop so that it will extend off the back to have enough space for two stools.

Oooh gas nice!! I was just curious Sounds like it's going to be awesome when you're done!!
Our washer was in the hall closet under the stairs and our drier was in the garage - it was always a hassle to do laundry!

That renovation sounds awesome. I grew up in a Levitt and could see how that would open it up so much.

The chimney in the bedroom upstairs was taken out this past Saturday with the roof being fixed as well. This took about 7 hours. The room was already gutted and the mess was contained to this room only.
The fireplace and brick wall from downstairs was taken out this past Tuesday. This took about 8 hours. This was a GIGANTIC mess! We covered everything in plastic but the dust is EVERYWHERE!!!

It's amazing how different it looks! My IL's are in a Levitt Ranch so it's cool to see how much it can change the look of it.

Re: Those with Levittown Ranches...UPDATE w/ before & After Pics of Fireplace
So I know this is old but I found it searching for companies to remove my chimney/fireplace from my Levitt home.
Any recommendations?

Still thinking of doing this, gathering quotes and designing the kitchen.
Can anybody tell me the permit process for the removal? What do i need to submit? Cost? Turn around time? Any info would be much appreciated.

Re: Those with Levittown Ranches...UPDATE w/ before & After Pics of Fireplace
does anybody know if the cement on the entryway is part of the original slab/foundation or if it was poured separately?
The link shows a floor plan, the area I'm interested in is the square in the bottom right corner with the arrow. I want to move the entryway, tear down the existing one and get more room in my kitchen.
