What did you do to help with the swelling? What worked, what didn't work? What did you end up wearing to work when your shoes didn't fit!? HELP!
My feet just BALLOONED over night...its awful. They're huge and I cannot even fit into shoes I was just wearing yesterday! gahhhhh!!!

my pharmacist friend said us pregnant ladies should wear compression socks to prevent swelling in our legs, varicose veins and blood clots.
Maybe that might help?

Re: Those with (or who had) swollen feet and ankles...Help!!!
OMG my last pregnancy (not this one thank god) My feet/ankles swelled so bad, for me it was the start of preclampsia.
But one thing I will say is my skin on my feet started to split. I put aquafor on my feet to prevent further splitting. So keep those tootsies moisterized!
FOr me it was the winter so all I wore was uggs. But since it is getting warmer flip flops will be your best friend!
Good luck I hope the swelling isnt too bad.
Try to stay away from salty stuff too

i have this now- im 32 w and it started last week
my doctor was concerned so they tested me for preecampsia but it was negative
she said lessen the salt, drink a ton of water and stay off your feet.
i also hear compression stockings can help..
in the mentime id go out and buy a couple pairs of comfy flats....i luckily had some that were big on me so I am stuck just wearing those

I had terrible swelling of my legs and ankles in the third trimester. I bought a pair of crocs that were ballet flats (sling back type - so the heel wasn't fully enclosed). So comfy even though my feet ballooned out of them at times. Also, my dr recommended sitting in a bath or walking in a pool to help reduce swelling.

Re: Those with (or who had) swollen feet and ankles...Help!!!
I wore compression stockings with my first, but they were such a pain to get on that I haven't used them again this pg. They did help though!
I've been staying off of my feet & keeping them up as much as possible and I wear flip flops in my office. When I have to get up & walk around the building I squeeze my feet into a pair of ballet flats that I don't really fit into anymore. I wear a size 10ww regularly so I can't just run out & get a bigger pair
I also cut back on salt & increased my water intake like a pp mentioned & on my doc's advice try not to cross my feet/ankles or legs. She said that can make it worse somehow. I'm still very puffy, but not as bad as I was. HTH

I am having the same issue, and asked the nurse at the OB's office yesterday. She said in addition to staying off your feet and drinking water, the crazy weather may also be a contributor. She said she's been hearing more swelling complaints than usual around the office.
My friend also said icing them will help.

Re: Those with (or who had) swollen feet and ankles...Help!!!
They told me that drinking a ton of water would help I tried that Cutting back on sodium I tried that Elevating my feet super high- and icing them...tried that too
All of that was helpful to a point... but at the very end NOTHING helped. My feet and ankles were so bad the only thing I coudl wear was flip flops- and even those were tight- I ended up buying a pair of Croc flip flops that were super comfy and wide- in a size up.
I think at that point it was the way the baby was lying- she was most likely on a vein or something that was preventing the fluid from draining out of my lower half.
The day after I delivered, it was like a miracle... I peed for like 15 minutes stright! I just peed out all the fluid and viola! I saw my ankle bones again for the first time in months! It was a joyous day!

I've been alternating between flip flops and crocs. Crocs were usually the best but yesterday they made me swell up really badly also. Definitely limit the salt. I have a cousin who is a nurse and used to eat asparagus or beets everyday because they are natural diuretics. And lots of water like others said.

ditto to almost every word. I swelled at about 25 weeks and suffered up to and past my due date. Nothing helped - except literally laying for an entire day with my feet elevated. Even then, they swelled again as soon as I tried to go about my day as usual.
The good news is that it all went away within about 4 weeks after delivery.

Re: Those with (or who had) swollen feet and ankles...Help!!!
I had severe swelling with my first pregnancy. I couldn't wear any of my shoes. My feet swelled over my flats. It was gross. I couldn't even wear my regular sneakers because my feet were so swollen. I had to buy plain black sneakers 1 or 2 sizes up. It was the only type of shoe my feet could even fit into during the last month or two.
Cut down on salt and drink plenty of water. Stay off your feet as much as possible. Keep your feet elevated. At night, I would keep my feet elevated above my heart and also put ice packs on my feet and ankles. It helped, but as soon as I started walking the next morning, my swelling was out of control. Compression stockings also helped a lot.
