Thoughts on cord blood gift registry? Saw old poll that said, "tacky"

So, DH and I are definitely doing cord blood through CBR.

At my bridal shower there were over 75 women and a VERY generous and unexpected 11 thousand dollars in gifts rolled in!

My baby shower will actually be about 10 more ladies than that...

I am registering and BRU and BBB but I don't want to go overboard with stuff I don't need just because I need to "have enough gifts" on the registry. DH and I already bought furniture when we found a price we just couldn't refuse. Also, my uncle who has a 3 year old was nice enough to give us an awesome hand-me-down Bugaboo, carseat, and a few other things... So, the big ticket furniture and stroller won't be in the registry mix.

I was planning to register for the cord blood as well- just as a third option for anyone interested. I figure that it is another USEFUL thing for people to buy if they want. However, I just did a search and found a poll where 50% of people thought it was TACKY and another bunch said they wouldn't do it for other reasons. The poster didn't mention though that she had any other registry, so I don't know if that affected the decision.

What do you guys think? The invites would have all 3 options... and if I don't register for SOMETHING else I will end up with either gift cards (fine by me!) OR a million horrible baby boy sailor outfits! haha- fine too- but much less desirable!

i like the idea of the 3 options, i would have done that if my aunt didn't pay for #1 core blood with #2 we will have to pay for it ourselfs as she is not with us.

i think its a great idea, and wish i wouldve done it with dd...we're on our own with this one too, at least we get a discount lol

We are doing cord blood through Viacord and they have this as an option too, my mom said she would buy it for us but she is already planning the shower, buying the furniture, so i dont want her spending so much. I think its a great idea and its for a great cause. I dont think its tacky at all.

ull prolly always find differing opinions in what others think u should or shouldnt do. and it might also depend on your family/friends etc. and what their views are and how "traditional" they are.

personally, i would list it as an option...that's all it is...an option. ure not forcing anyone just letting them know. they can make their own decision as to what they would like to get you. and u never know...maybe someone would actually prefer to donate to the cord blood rather than buy clothes or something.

I don't think it's tacky at all! Especially since you are giving people a choice
