thoughts on full day vs half day pre school for 3yo?? (3 days a week)

DS is currently going to pre school 2 days a week for 2 hours a day in the 2yo program. he loves it.

next year, the option is either 3 days a week for 3 (i think) hours a day or a new 3 days a week for 6 hours a day.

i'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of full day vs half day. the socialization would be great since he's babysat by grandma all day. he would probably love it since he loves school. but what about naps? he currently takes a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day so what happens at full day?

any pros and cons you could share with me would be appreciated!Chat Icon

Re: thoughts on full day vs half day pre school for 3yo?? (3 days a week)

G goes two days a week for 6 hours right now. She loves it. She doesn't nap there...they try (and a few kids actually nap), but the kids who don't they give a book to and they have "quiet time". She also took a 2 hour nap each day at home, so I was really worried that she'd be a cranky mess when she got home, and that she'd stop napping for me at home. It worked out, and she still naps for me on the days she is home, and generally makes it through the day ok without a meltdown.
I think if he is enjoying it now, go for the full day next year. He'll be that much older and may not even be napping anymore.

My dd goes 2 full days and will be 3 on Fri. For us, it worked out for child care. We were initially going to do 1/2 days but this way, I didn't have to worry about someone picking her up. They have nap time, but she doesn't actually fall asleep. She comes home singing songs and is recognizing many letters. I sometimes feel bad b/c it is a long day, but she could be in day care 5 full days somewhere. Next year when she is going on 4, she will go 5 days.

my dd goes 3 half days from 9-1 and loves it. they kinda do the same thing in the afternoon for the afternoon kids but if we are running late to pick up she always seems to be having fun either way. If you can spend the money for full day then I can go for it!! We can't so she goes half day...
