I was just wondering....
I have 2 options pre school at 3 days a week for 180 2 hours. Or would you bring child to a day care 3 days a week for 170 but he can stay longer hours.....what is the difference between them? Not sure what to do is one better then the other????

I wouldn't necessarily say one is better than the other.
I would go to each, check them out and see which I preferred for my child

Re: Pre school or Day care
i don't know where you are located, but I work at a school that has "daycare" kids in it. The daycare children are enrolled in classrooms and it is run with an educational mindset. FM me if you are interested.

Re: Pre school or Day care
I'd check out the summer/vacation hours for the pre-school.
I guess it depends on your needs.
Now that you have the freedom, if you wanted to meet your friend for coffee and were running late - you wouldn't have to panic.
DS is 2, been in daycare since 6 weeks. He was moved up to the next class a few weeks ago and already knows his ABCs, colors, count to 10 - so they do educational stuff with him in daycare.
What hours would DC be going? DS's daycare does "education" from about 9:30-12:15 - with breaks for bathroom/diapers and outside/free play. If you send DC from 12-3 - that's nap time so you wouldn't get the education out of my DS's daycare.
Plus, if DC likes it and wants to stay longer, you have that flexibility. My sis went to a 3 year program - after about 3 weeks she ask my mom, "Mommy, how come I have to come home and have lunch with you but other kids get to stay?" - she liked it and wanted to stay.
ETA: Just saw #2 is coming in Oct - what happens if #2 is sleeping and its time to pick #1 up? What happens if #2's doc appt runs late? Or decides to spit up as you are walking out the door to get #1?

Preschool, for sure. A trained daycare provider is not a trained teacher.

That's not true. Daycares hire teachers for their preschool programs

Re: Pre school or Day care
I am glad you found one that does that, but many don't. They are trained as providers not educators. There is a big difference. Frequently, they know what the child needs to learn, but don't have the training to teach it. I've worked in many and have seen a lot of inappropriate academic work.
Most trained teachers do not want to work in daycare centers for minimal pay with long hours and few vacations. Preschools may offer minimum pay, but they have lots of vacations and shortened hours. Every good preschool has teachers with teaching degrees and certifications.

This is what I was going to say. While I know there ARE some daycares that have certified teachers, it is not the norm. So, without knowing any specific info, I'd opt for the preschool.

I agree with this. I have a family member who worked many years in daycare who told me basically the same thing-- that most trained teachers working in daycares are not there by choice, kwim? I would worry that I wasn't getting the cream of the crop in terms of teacher quality.
I would go for preschool unless you actually needed the childcare certain days a week.

ITA. My daycare has numerous teachers that work there. I have only visited one pre-school and I really liked my daycare better and felt that DD already knew what they would have taught her at the preschool. Each school is different. I would go with your gut,

Re: Pre school or Day care
I disagree with PP's who said that daycare doesn't have qualified teachers. I think there are good teachers and bad teachers everywhere. DS has an AMAZING TEACHER in his daycare. With the cuts to public schools, a lot of out of work teachers are finding full time work in daycare centers.
Ultimately, you should speak with the teachers are the daycare and preschool and see what suits your needs best and where you think you DC will excel.

Re: Pre school or Day care
As the PP said... it depends on the school. I do love daycares b/c I worked in one and my son is in one. THere are a lot of "teachers" that work there. I think it depends on you.
Since daycares are 5 days a week and they do have lessons your DC may be off only going part-time where at a pre-school all the kids go the same time and do the same lessons since they're all part-time together. Just something to think about
