thrift stores for furntiure?
Has anyone done this? DH and I don't want to spend a lot of money right now on a new kitchen table, but we need something a little bigger so we can have more people over and sit comfortably at the table. I was just watching Design on a Dime (my fav!) and they found a beautiful old table for $60 and all they did was fix it up!! We're in West Babylon and I know of one in the area, but does anyone know of other thrift stores around that have good furniture?

Re: thrift stores for furntiure?
Now this is an area of the home board I am comfortable with!!! OK- Northern thrift is on 110 (?) in Huntington. Selden Thrift is on Middle Country Rd. in Selden. Theres also one of the same brand in Brentwood, though I've never been in it- I actually tried to go monday evening, bu they were already closed! That one is on Suffolk Ave, between Brentwood Rd. and 5th Ave. These are HUGE stores. Theres a Salvation Army or something on Main Street in Patchogue, too.
If you guys have time to wait- I suggest taking an overnight trip to Massachusetts for the Brimfield Antique show. It's Mothers Day weekend- and I am talking ACRES of booths. You can find anything you want- haggle prices, and enjoy walking around for hours. You could seriously furnish a whole house in a day.
So much fun.

Re: thrift stores for furntiure?
my good friend has a set like this but it much sturdier looking & in perfect shape that she is selling at my yard sale in a few weeks.
I can find out how much she wants for it.
ETS-I'm a big yard sale shopper & I have gotten stuff at the salvation army too.

Re: thrift stores for furntiure?
I was going to suggest craigslist too.
Also look at JC Penny or overstock.com.

Re: thrift stores for furntiure?
When I was getting ready to move into my first apartment, my brother in law and I hit a huge tag sale. I got 2 twin beds, a 6 foot couch, a desk, a dresser, and a lamp for $800.
I wasn't discriminating at that point. But now that I know I can DIY wood pieces to make them better, that's definitely more of an option.
By the way, that kitchen table and chairs is very nice. Too bad I have no room for them!

thanks, but that's unfortunately a little too wide (believe it or not!). We have a very narrow space but we're trying to maximize it by getting a long narrow table, hopefully something with a leaf.
