throwing a work baby shower- need menu ideas
I'm throwing my co-worker a baby shower at work next thursday, and my supervisor and I are deciding the menu now.
We're basically going in two directions- Pizza Party or Hot Buffet type. It's only going to be about 12 adults & 2 kids total.
Tell me if this is enough food, and what else should be included
Pizza
4-5 Regular Pies Large Tray of Tossed Salad with Italian Dressing ??? Cake & Cookies
Hot Buffet
1/2 Tray of Chicken Parm 1/2 Tray of Italian Meatballs 1 Tray of Penne A La Vodka Large tray of Tossed Salad with Italian Dressing Cake & Cookies
We're a very laid back office, so my supervisor feels like the hot buffet may be too much, but I feel the pizza party is too casual for a baby shower. Maybe if we were to include something else besides pizza & salad, but what?

That's a LOT of food. If you want it to be a bit fancier, I'd leave the pizza out entirely. The hot buffet foods are pretty safe so the kids will like it, too.

it's one or the other, not both. You think it's too much food for either one? I'm thinking for the pizza, the adults will have 1-2 slices and the kids 1, and for the hot buffet the 1/2 trays feed up to 10 people.

If you want to do the pizza maybe also add a 3 foot hero to give people another option...or garlic knots...
If you're doing the hot buffet, I think that what you listed sounds about right. I think the pizza is going to be less set up and clean up so that's something to think about too.
Can you ask someone in your office (someone that you value their opinion) which one they would prefer?

My office got me a cake! I think anything you do is nice - no need to go that crazy! 5 pies would be like 3 slices per person - way too much! And that hot food buffet sounds like it would feed 30 people!

i just got a cake too! i think the pizza is fine, i would mix up the toppings though, 4 pies would be more than enough... hot buffet sounds like its too much.

If you think one is too much and one is too little, why don't you do wraps or sandwiches? BJ's has a wrap platter that is only 30 dollars.

Ohhhh I thought it was BOTH! I was gonna say whoooooaaa. Haha. I think the hot buffet is the way to go. Pizza is a little lax for a baby shower and I know I'd want to make it a little bit fancier.
ETA: I think it would also depend on the honoree. For instance, I'm throwing my friend a baby shower and at first I kinda planned for it to be a little fancier but she didn't seem so into it. So we downgraded and made it a backyard BBQ. Not what I would've done, but still, it's turning out pretty cute either way!

What about an assortment of different sandwiches instead of the meatballs and chicken parm? Maybe make the salad more creative. Add nuts, fruit, interesting cheeses, beans etc. ETA: I think the quality and variety of pizza is very important. Find a really good pizzeria where you can get a nice assortment of high quality pies ( different kinds of veggie/ meat toppings, whole wheat, thin crust/thick crust etc)
