Throwing food...is this just a phase?
So, DD likes to feed herself. So, mostly I just put cut up peices of food on her tray. The last 2 days she has taken to throwing them on the floor. When I say "NO", she looks at me...and does it again. She then looks over the side to watch the dog eat whatever she's thrown. She does not do this with cherios...only regular food. She has been teething. Is this just a phase..or her way of saying she's not hungry? I hate the mess

Re: Throwing food...is this just a phase?
Its called the "wow...throwing things on the floor is fun" phase. Which then turns into the "playing fetch with Mommy when I throw things on the floor is even more fun" phase!

Luca loves this game. Unfortunately for him, mommy doesn't. He gets 3 tries and after that the toy goes away. I know he's still young to "get it" but I figure if I stick to it eventually he'll get the point. He also likes to throw food on the florr, but I think for him he does it when he's not hungry.

Well...at least I'm not alone. The dog loves this phase
DH has started calling the dog "dyson" because he eats whatever she throws overboard.

DS does the same thing when he is full or does not want what I have given him to eat.

She has always done this with her sippy cup...so I just hold it for her to drink from (it's the kind with a straw). She doesn't like to hold it to drink from...only grabs it so she can throw it.

Oh yes, Johnny LOVES to feed the dogs. He laughs hysterically. He also loves to throw his sippy cup overboard, which usually hits my frail, skinny, blind dog whose waiting for his snacks right on the head!

It's part phase and part baby trying to learn boundaries. (which are really all one thing)
She needs for you to tell her no sternly and when she keeps it up after a few times (within a few minutes), time to take the food away. Otherwise, she learns that everytime she makes a mess, you will simply clean it up (or the dog will) and there are no real consequences.

I tried this, and it turned in to her thinking it was hysterical when I told her no, to the point when I wasn't looking at her she would say "no no no" until I did, with her little hand dangling the food over the side. When I looked she would throw it.
Maybe try ignoring it for a while first and see if that works. She doesn't really do it anymore, so I think it is a phase.

Re: Throwing food...is this just a phase?
Emma did this... I corrected it by taking her out of her highchair everytime she started to throw food. I would say no throwing food, take her down, and put her back in after 15 mins or so... I found that she threw food when she wasn't really hungry or didn't like what I gave her to eat. I know it sounds like apin to take them up and down from the highchair, but it works.
