Thyroid concerns...
When I first started seeing the RE last spring he discovered I have Hasimoto's and I have been taking synthriod or some sorta generic meds for it since April or May. My TSH levels when I first went to the DR were 22, and I have been going every 3 months or so and they still haven't leveled out! I just got my results today and they were 3.7, and last time it was 2 something, which is in the normal range but not ideal so they upped my meds again, How long does it take to get your thyroid under control??? I started out on 25 mcg and now I am up to 125, this is the fourth time they had to up it!!

Re: Thyroid concerns...
You may want to see another doctor. While an RE is certainly qualified to play with your thyroid, it isn't what they specialize in. KWIM?
DH has a thyroid condition, as does my mom. It is common for them to have to play with your dose a little before they get it right.

Re: Thyroid concerns...
Everyone is different when it comes to responsing to treatments. Took me 2 years to get control of my thyroid issues.
According to my doctor you really need a 2.5 or better when TTC.
Maybe you should see a specialist to see what other treatment options there are.

Re: Thyroid concerns...
I also have Hashimoto's undiagnosed for a long time. On routine physical blood work they found my TSH 37 and free T4 0.29. I was started on generic levothyroxine 50 mcg, this was March 2008. I then went back every 6 weeks for bloodwork and gradual dose increases. This was a long and frustrating process, and looking back I should have went right to an endocrinologist rather than let my primary doctor play around. My TSH level dropped to 10 but would not go any further than that. I asked to see an endocrinologist or RE since I am TTC. My docotor recommended an endocrinologist who would see me over a long period of time rather than an RE who sees you for a short period after you successfully conceive. I went to an endo who was great. He recommended using only the brand name Synthroid rather than generic levothyroxine because the filler used in generic are different with each batch. He explained although the brand name costs more it keeps levels more stable with dose changes. Anyways (sorry this is so long) November 2008 finally my TSH 1.125 and Free T4 1.14 on Synthroid 125mcg, we got the green light to TTC. I feel so much better and he will follow me closely when I get pregnant as you may need up to 2-3X dose during pregnancy. I also read Mary Shomons thyroid books (she also had fertility issues) which are very informative. My gyno recommends me trying for 3 months with normal thyroid levels and then if no BFP to the RE I go. HTH
