Ticks
Although it is still not so warm out the ticks are out and biting. I had to remove one from my dog last night (so gross!!). I put Frontline plus on my pup last night so hopefully he will not get bit again. Today DH is going to take him to the vet since the site of the bite is swollen.

Re: Ticks
OH NO. Does your dog go into woods or brush? Debris? Where do you think he got it? The thought of ticks drives me insane. Hope your baby gets better soon.

Ticks
I think he picked it up from the greenway by my house. The vet said there are tons of ticks around already this spring. We have to wait four weeks to have blood work done to look for tick borne diseases. Our vet said they are no longer recommending frontline bc they have found it does not work as well as they once thought.

So what is the vet recommending now? I see oral flea and tick preventatives and always wonder about their effectiveness -- I know there is one called Comfortis.

Re: Ticks
Coco had one in the end of november beginning of december. And it must had been on her for days because it was huge.
It was on her face so it is not like we could have seen it.
We are not even in an area where we have many trees or deers or even woods.
Ugh I dread tick season!

The stuff they are recommending now is called Vectra. I am going to look it up- it is topical.

Re: Ticks
My vet in Virginia stopped recommending frontline about 4-5 years ago because it wasn't working as well anymore. They also recommend vectra, we just put our 1st dose since the fall on our dog tonight.

Do you find the Vectra works well? I am going to start using it on my dog next month.

Re: Ticks
I thought I just read somewhere vectra wasn't good?? Let me see what I can find n get back to you! Ets: what I read was in a forum and the people who used vectra stated their dogs had hairloss and someone posted something about heart attacks. Maybe research it further!

Re: Ticks
Our dog has been on it for a few years and we haven't had any problems, my dad's dog had fleas when we went to visit this summer and our dog didn't come home with any. We only treat her April-Nov.
