Secretions in cervix, which is often released before labor.
it blocks the cervix

Ahhh - so what happens when it falls out?
Or maybe this is a question the doctor would feel more comfortable answering???

Re: Time for the stupidest question EVER!
The mucous plug covers your cervix throughout your pg, when the cervix begins to dilate, (opens), and begins to efface (thin out)the plug gradually, or falls out. The plug falling out could be an indicator of labor or soon to be labor.
I never lost my plug until i was 3-4 cm dilated in the hospital. Some ladies have lost it, then went into labor. It looks like a big, blobby snot, sorry for the TMI

I didnt lose mine either! Well, I lost a little bit. It is really gross. Like a big, green, snot, but from what I heard, it couldnt have been the whole thing b/c they are supposed to be kinda big....
And they can have a LITTLE blood in it.
