Time from offer acceptance to close

How much time did it take for you to go from offer acceptance to closing? What's a normal amount of time to expect?

If it's a co-op, how much extra time did you need for board approval, etc.?

many thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Time from offer acceptance to close

We placed an offer on Jan 26, signed contracts on Feb 12, and are hoping to close the week of 3/19 (the lawyer and the mortgage broker are on the same page as us as well).

ETA: Co-ops can take longer with the board approval, it all depends on when the board is scheduled to meet. I have friends who have purchased co-ops and it's taken a few months after their offer was accepted to be approved by the board. I am sure though that each co-op is different!

Re: Time from offer acceptance to close

For our co-op, we placed the offer at the end of March and closed in the beginning of July. Our closing was held up for a few reasons: 1) we weren't in a rush because DH's apartment lease was up at the end of July 2) we got married at the end of June and were away on our honeymoon 3) we had scheduling conflicts.

ETA: We went before the co-op board at the very beginning of June and could have closed sooner, but because of our wedding / honeymoon, we had to push things off.

Re: Time from offer acceptance to close

We are also buying a co-op. We made an offer Jan 31 - offer was accepted within a week. We signed contracts, got the mortgage committment and submitted the board package for processing yesterday. Depending on the boards schedule, we should hear back the middle or end of the month to schedule an interview. Our closing is on or about Apr 5th, but we would like to puch it back until Apr 26th, so we'll see. In total, it should be about 3 mos Chat Icon
