Tipping Question (birthday party)

I never know if I am tipping too much or not enough and it stresses me out!

I hired 2 entertainers for my sons birthday party. The cost is $325 total. How much should I tip them (provided that they do a great job)

Is $40 per person enough? Too little? Too much?

I think that's very generous. We just had an entertainer for DS' party and since it was him alone and he owes the business we didn't tip. Well, I would have but DH is kinda cheap Chat Icon

Re: Tipping Question (birthday party)

i think thats very generous. We've tipped about 25 per person if they were good. Nothing if they weren't.

My DH is also very cheap, but i just do it without him knowing.Chat Icon

Re: Tipping Question (birthday party)

thats extremely generous. Now its not a character, but at Chuck E. Cheese, people would tip the party hostess between $20-$40 for 1.5 hour of work...

Re: Tipping Question (birthday party)

Thanks....it says on the contract a sugested gratuity is 18-20%.

The owner said on the phone....a $65 tip split between the two of the is sufficient but that is not 18% (unless I am doing the math wrong Chat Icon )

Re: Tipping Question (birthday party)

I tipped the 2 girls who did the activities with the kids $20 each. I was planning to pay much more but other moms told me that was enough. The girls did about 45 minutes of music and parachute play.

We brought all the food and set up ourselves.

Assuming the 20% Chat Icon Chat Icon how very generous of them!

The gratuity is suggested so with that I say bring $30 for each and based on the service provided you can decide if you give them all or nothing.

I would go by what the contract says.

I think it really depends on the place and what they are doing for you. The place we had ours at - it seemed like they were just doing a typical shift of class, except it was a birthday party. I don't think they were expecting a tip. Some moms said I didn't have to tip them at all. I was grateful so I just handed them a $20 each. They seemed grateful.

If it was a full service party, I would expect to tip like a restaurant bill.

This whole bday party planning thing is new to me though.

Thanks, this sounds like a perfect plan.

Re: Tipping Question (birthday party)

I didn't have any contract or anything. No one told me about tipping, we almost (like we always do) forgot.

I prepared envelopes with $20s and handed them out at the end of the party.
