I'm curious, which contractors do you generally tip? I never know what to do here!

Today we have subcontractors doing work for us (construction). They do not own the business, but are working for the man who does. Would you tip them? The job is at least all day today, possibly part of tomorrow, and it's not a simple job.

Thanks!

Thanks--I never know what to do.

I guess in my mind, the jobs that require brute force deserve a tip, since those people are often not well paid. But jobs requiring some skill and knowledge, do not necessarily. But I never know what the norm is.

My DH does this for a living. He gets tips, but it's rare. What he appreciates the most is something to drink throughout the day. Water or whatever.

Do what you are most comfortable with.

Re: Tipping Subcontractors

My DH never gets tipped. He works on peoples houses. The clients may be nice enough to offer a drink if they have been out there in the sun working but cash is not something he really ever gets (yes he is the boss but no money other than what the contract is gets given)

Thanks for the info! I am offering them coffee, drinks, and lunch if they want it, so I guess that's plenty.

Re: Tipping Subcontractors

I always offer drinks. If they do a really good job and have done something extra for us that we didn't ask and didn't charge us extra for it, we will give a small tip - depending on the job of course.
