Re: tipping the owner?

nope, i would not.

unless you thought she did the most amazing job ever, it's not necessary. all of the money is going to her anyway.

Yes. I do. I tip based on service not how much money is going in someone's pocket.

Re: tipping the owner?

I don't, I go to a salon where there are just 2 ladies- one who does cut the other color. I tip the shampoo girl because she works for them but the money I pay for my cut and color goes right to each girl, so I don't get why they should get a tip? I only tip if they've done something a lil extra for me and didn't charge. They always take the tips but it's weird to me to tip if they're getting all the money?

You tip waitresses and stylists who only get paid a certain amount, and really make most of their money off tips- the owners aren't the same IMO.

Re: tipping the owner?

I do. My hairdresser is the owner of the salon as well as someone I went to HS with. I always tip her bc not even half the money that she charges for a hair cut is going into her pocket. It is used to pay her overhead, pay employees, buy supplies etc. If she was doing it out of her house, then I would not tip.

Re: tipping the owner?

No. As a business owner, I NEVER expect tip from my clients and make it known upfront.

That makes sense since you are getting a discounted price.

But when I followed my hairdresser to Jersey City when she opened her salon and was charged the same price I paid on Fifth Avenue which were her list rates, I didn't feel compelled to tip her. The other people that worked on my hair - absolutely!

Actually, I'm not too sure that I get a discount, lol. She shows me the breakdown (color, cut, etc) but has never said, I gave you so and so percent off. I just give her a tip bc she is doing a service and I am happy with the service. She has never refused a tip.

you see, this is where i say that what i pay the owner IS going to her. it's her business and those are her expenses.

just my take on it

Re: tipping the owner?

I do. I have always heard no, but I figure if I like the job the person does, I tip them regardless.

I do not give her a holiday gift, though. Chat Icon
