Tips for Brushing Teeth?
DS is 14.5 months and will NOT let me brush his teeth. He only has 6 right now, but still I need to brush them. He shuts his mouth very tight and shakes his head no. Any tricks or tips? Is this just a phase? I try giving him the toothbrush but he doesn't even want that anymore.

Re: Tips for Brushing Teeth?
DD went through a phase of sealing her motuth shut too. We literally had to hold her down and squeeze her cheeks to get her mouth open and do a quick brush. Once she realized we were going to keep doing this, she started to cooperate. Even now, I can only brush them for like 2 min and she is grabbing the brush and wants to do it herself. So I let her. Hey, its got to be better than nothing!

Re: Tips for Brushing Teeth?
This is what I do:
I have two toothbrushes one for me to use and one for Dc to use. That way while DC is trying to brush their own teeth you can seak in and brush them also.
My DD also likes to brush my teeth, so again on occassional i will give her my extra toothbrush and she will try to brush my teeth while i am brushing hers.

DS went through that phase. Now he brushes them after bath on my bed while we watch TV. Since he's distracted with the TV he doesn't mind doing it himself then I do a quick once over to make sure I got them all

Re: Tips for Brushing Teeth?
I use finger puppets and pretend the animals are brushing his teeth. Also doing it in front of a mirror helps.

Does he drink after or is there no more milk at that point? He still gets a nighttime bottle which is also an issue.

Re: Tips for Brushing Teeth?
This is/was ds. I had the finger brushes and the regular ones. I finally found a finger tooth brush that is soft with lots or bristles that he tolerates. We make it into bit of a game. He makes silly noises when I'm brushing and he thinks it funny. I also let him rinse and spit out the water in the sink and he loves this. He knows he has to brush in order to rinse. It is very frustrating but I just do the best I can

I did this too.
When DS got a little older I made up a song: Brush, brush, brush your teeth Brush your little teeth Up and down and all around Gotta get them clean.
(and yes, we danced as we sung)

Yup, was going to say this. He gets his milk now after dinner and that's all for the night. Usually he gets a bath a half hour after then brush teeth, cuddle watching TV for a few, books and bed He's 23 months and we've had this sched since about 14 months

Re: Tips for Brushing Teeth?
We picked up a tooth brushing song from one of the music classes we took, DS loves it, because in the class they would use little egg shakers and shake them by the teeth.
So I sing the song and he "brushes" ... I don't ever do it for him, I figure its more for developing good habits now than actual tooth health. I would be afraid that if you force it, you may develop a bad association with it.
DS will 14m next week.
eta: DS gets a bottle - soon to be cup at around 6:30-7:00 after his dinner, and a bath at 7:30 when we brush.
I may give him a few oz of water in a sippy before bed, he seems to get thirsty after a bath.
