tips on using nasal aspirator?
DD is pretty congested, I think it's from her shots yesterday . But she won't let me get that nasal aspirator in her nose!! It's so frustrating!! Any tips on how to get those boogies out? She gagged and coughed up mucous last night because I think it turned into a little post nasal drip!

No advice - have you used the vaporizor at night to help dry up the nose
Hope feels better

Re: tips on using nasal aspirator?
I just use the saline drops. He is too strong now for me to use the aspirator and I haven't been able to get much out using that thing anyway. They eventually get sneezed out, or hang on the end of his nose, where I get them with a tissue.

Re: tips on using nasal aspirator?
Lots of Saline Drops --- put some in, let it sit, then put some more in, let it sit. Then holding DC down (wrangle DH to help) put the aspirator in the nostril and close the other nostril by pressing on the side of the nose. Release slowly and you will create a vacuum and it WILL come out.
Also, steam showers are great --- steam shower, put the saline in and do it in the barthroom.
Also, Pat baby on the back, around the lungs to loosen to mucous.
My doctor always told me, if DC's not screaming, you aren't doing it right .... You need to get the mucous out - at that age, they can easily develop bronchiolitis and RSV.
I hate doing it, but I do it every time there is a little congestion. I went through bronchiolitis when DC was very little and I never want to go through anything like that again.
ETA: I have an aspirator from the hospital (the ones they use when the baby is first born) ---- it is the BEST one around.
