TMI Q for BF mommies re: A 5 mo Dirty Diaper Color

Hi mommies. Ok, only on here will I be talking this candidly about poop Chat Icon

My DS is EBF and always had yellowish poop. He is now 5 mo and the past few weeks it is more often a yellow-brownish (more brownish) color and sometimes even a greenish-brown color. I did start vitamins around the same time so not sure if this affected it but I notice it even in the dirty diapers early in the day b/f i give him the vitamins.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks so much Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Green poops usually mean that the baby is getting more FORE milk....rather than the fatty HIND milk.

Green, frothy poops can also mean an allergy. Maybe something you ate.

I wouldn't be too worried about the brownish colored ones, IMO. DD's varied between mustard yellow and brown most of the time.

Just wanted to add that BRIGHT GREEN - as in SAINT PATRICK'S DAY GREEN is also from blue food dye. I'm not sure how it filters with breast milk but I've changed some seriously strange colored diapers.

I posted a website once. I'll see if I can find it.

yes.. the vitamins will have something to do with it.. especially if it has iron in it.. it will start to get more green... if you ever took iron did you notice your poop was green??Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DD is EBF & since starting vitamins last week she's gone from green/yellow to dark brown. I was wondering the same but MIL said it had to be the vitamins (I hadn't even thought of that till she said it).

DS poop always varied in color while EBF'ing. You shouldnt worry to much unless you see, blood in the stool, frothy poop, or very very loose poop. Other than that the color of their poop will change and sometime it depends on your diet as well.

Sounds just like DD's poops. On days when she is distracted while eating and not always getting the hind milk it gets a little greenish too. I figure the yellow/brown just depends on what I'm eating.

my DD is the same way, but I spoke to few friends and they said the same thing about their children's poops, lol. it;s nothing to worry about, ala there is no blood in it. some days her poop is greenish brown and some days yellow, somedays its very thin and somedays kind of solid.
