To anyone that does NOT have a degree [poll]
Poll in case you want it to remain anonymous - this a 3 parter question:
Have you ever applied for a job that required a degree and if so, did you lie about having one, and did you get the job?

I have a degree, but recently a co-worker was fired after it was discovered that he lied about having a Bachelor's Degree on his resume.

How does that come up? Did they ask him for transcripts or something? Or was it just in conversation?
I've never known anyone that that happened to, but I do know someone who lied about it and was never found out.

I've never lied about not having a degree.
I have applied for jobs that require one, and have gotten them in the past.
I would definitely not lie about it.

The guy I know that got fired dimed himself out by mistake. One of my co-workers jsut got her Master's & he was saying how he wishes he would have finished his degree. Turns out he only had an Associates & was about 22 credits from his BA.

i also know someone who was fired- she had lied and they found out a few months later when the background check results came in

I do not have a degree. I have applied for jobs that have required a degree- but never lied about not having one. I got the job!

Im in the process of applying right now without a degree, but only to those that specify either a degree or related experience needed. I wouldnt lie that I had one though.

same here. i'm not ashamed of it. my experience and skills far surpassed that of any requirements they had for education.

Thanks ladies. Looks like the poll is just about split down the middle.
Maybe anyone who completed some college course work might reconsider applying for jobs that require a degree if they know people are getting jobs without them.

My father knew a guy that was in a job 10 years. He had said he had an MBA. Well I guess at some point they decided to do some routine background checks and he was fired.
My sister-in-law is in HR at one of the big investment firms - she says they call the schools to verify they have their degree.

This is true--I work at a college and employers call everyday to verify graduation. Not even enrollment, just graduation, so even if you were close it wouldnt matter.
