To finish or not to finish?
I am reading the Amature Marriage, it is sooo boring. I am about 1/3 of the way through...do i finish?
I have A million little pieces at home and am psyched to read it so that could be why im tempted to give up.

Re: To finish or not to finish?
I used to push myself to finish books, but I decided that I am not going to do it anymore. There are so many good ones out there I would like to read that spending time on one I hate doesn't seem worth it.

I loved the Amateur Marriage, but Anne Tyler's work might not be for everyone. This isn't a fast-paced book, so if you're not into it, then go on to something else.
Happy Reading!!

I'm going to try to finish it...at least until my trip to Denver/Boulder. So I will start A Million Little Pieces in two weeks regardless.

Re: To finish or not to finish?
In Book Lust, Nancy Pearl suggests the rule of 50, which I think makes a lot of sense.
If you are under 50, read 50 pages before deciding whether to read on or not and if you are over 50, subtract the number of years you are over 50 from the number of pages you read.
There are two many books to read to spend your time with a book that isn't capturing your attention.

Re: To finish or not to finish?
If you are not liking it, why bother reading more? There have been a few books that were extremely popular that I just couldn't get through (Interview with a Vampire, Angela's Ashes) that I put down without regrets. And you already have a book you are anxious to read all ready to go

Re: To finish or not to finish?
I just had this. everyone at work was telling me to read this book and I have been trying over the past month to finish it and finally just gave up on it. Then the past two days i finished a 284 page book because I LOVED IT. So if i get 1/3 way through a book and am forcing myself to read it i won't do it anymore.
