Today I am finally graduating! (LONG!!)
It is with great happiness that I can announce my graduation from this board- I AM PREGNANT!!! I can honestly say that I feel a little guilty that I am leaving all of you, since you’ve all been an amazing source of support and encouragement for me. However, I am comfortable enough to finally come out and share this with all of you.
Here is my story:
As many of you know, DH is a testicular cancer survivor. On top of only having one testicle, he also has a varicocele, which had greatly impacted his testosterone production. This posed a huge problem for us, since DH’s morphology and motility were horrible. On November 12, 2007, we went to CRMI at Cornell and saw Dr. Goldschlag to help us. Dr. Goldschlag felt that based on DH’s tests, the best thing for us would be ICSI. He stated that we would try a few IUIs but that he was not sure it would work. We left there comfortable with the doctor and our plan of action. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be able to start until the end of January, due to miscommunication and the fact that Cornell closed for the holidays. In the meantime, DH went to a new urologist at Cornell who prescribed Clomid for him in order to increase testosterone production. Within a few weeks, he felt a million times better and had much more energy.
Finally, on 1/28/08, I was able to start my cycle! We were so excited but not overly excited as we were convinced the IUI wouldn’t work. I went to Cornell on 1/30/08 for CD3 bloodwork and a sonogram. That night I was instructed to start injecting 150mg. of Follistim. I went to Cornell every 2 days (or sometimes daily) for bloodwork and finally was told on 2/4/08 that I would trigger on 2/5 in the morning and the IUI would be on Wednesday, 2/6/08. We couldn’t believe it! It was finally here. The IUI went smoothly and DH’s sample was excellent thanks to the Clomid. Two days later I started progesterone suppositories. I began to feel exhausted, my breasts were sore and I just could not stay awake. Both John and I thought it was due to the progesterone. On 2/17/08, I took a test- there was a faint line but we thought it couldn’t be real! So we assumed that the dollar store test was wrong. I was up sick that night with the worst heartburn. Lo and behold, I took a test on Monday and it was positive! We were in shock. After some bloodwork and a sonogram, it confirmed that I was in fact pregnant. We couldn’t believe that our prayers had finally been answered. We honestly believed that it didn’t work and planned to start trying again in May, after we were settled into our new house. Apparently, this little one wanted to join our family immediately! It was amazing to see the look on my husband’s face when I surprised him. Seeing those tears in his eyes made me fall in love with him even more. Our final appointment with Dr. Goldschlag was on 3/18/08. I got to see my little jalapeno again. It was amazing to see how much detail was in the sonogram. Our EDD is 10/30/08.
