Toddler bed or twin bed?
Kiera is ready to move out of the crib. She came out and told us that she wants a bed. We're trying to decide if we should go with a toddler bed or a twin. Both have it's pros and cons. When we have another baby we're planning on having them share a room for some time. There's enough room for a twin bed and a crib but obviously a toddler bed will take up a lot less room.
Please share with me what you did and why. Thanks!

I did a twin bed for both kids. I saw no point of wasting money for a bed for a few years.

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
I put DS right into a twin bed, he was around 21 months.
I didn't think the toddler bed was practical and didn't want to have to go bed shopping again in a year or two.

Same here I think the toddler beds are a waste of money.

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
I went with a toddler bed. For me it was not a waste. DS is still in it, he will be 3 soon and fits fine in it and will be in it until his sister, who's almost 1, is ready for it. Then she will use it. And Andrew will get all his big boy bedroom furniture.

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
I've done both. My older daughter started climbing out of the crib at 18 months, so I put her in a toddler bed. I felt she was just to small for a twin bed. However, my youngest stayed in the crib until 2 1/2 and then went straight into a twin bed.

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
My DD is 2 1/2 we had an extra crib mattress that was at my moms, so we bought a used dora toddler bed from craigslist for $20. The new baby coming will use her old crib and matress.
I didnt see a toddler bed as a waste, because she is still small for a twin bed and the cost was low.

I don't think it's a waste either. We just purchased a toddler bed for Andrew. He loves it and especially loves being able to easily climb in and out of it. He doesn't sleep in it yet though!
Anyway, when he outgrows it, baby #2 should be able to use it and then we'll convert the crib into the full size bed with the rails we purchased.

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
I just ordered Kevin a twin bed. Should be in soon. I couldn't really find a reason to go with a toddler bed. His crib converts to one but the new baby will be using the crib so he gets a twin bed.

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
I put my son right into a twin bed. The toddler beds are so temporary. You can buy the side bumpers for added security.

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. We decided to go with a twin bed. The decision was made a lot easier by someone we know looking to get rid of a brand new twin bed for free. So starting next week Kiera will be out of the crib and into a real bed. Wish me luck!!!

Re: Toddler bed or twin bed?
we went right to a full size bed. Diana's crib converted to a full size bed, so we just went with it and she loves it. But, moving out of the crib happened right after we put an extension on the house and she got a much bigger room, so we had the space for it.
