Toenail removal
Anyone ever have it done for fungus . I'm considering it...but not if it's too painful or pointless

Re: Toenail removal
A car ran over my toe, and the next day the nail fell off, not sure if thats the same thing, but my toenail grew back so perfect I almost wanted to get the other removed
It hurt a bit, but not as bad as it sounds, its more awkward than anything.

Re: Toenail removal
I would see a foot doctor and let them treat it.
I would not want to have NO toenail. I rather trim it down to the bare minimal.
I used topical ointments, and then even prescribed oral meds to treat it.
It took awhile but worked.

Re: Toenail removal
im thinking i need this for one of my big toes..i can see its split across the middle..like new nail coming up, and old nail moving up the top. but its sort of stopped growing.
i've used a prescription antifungal years ago called PENLAC. its like a nail polish you put on a few times a day. works really great.
i would see a family dr. or even a podiatrist and see what they think.

Re: Toenail removal
I had a nail removed bc of a previous injury to it. Not gonna lie, it hurt. I would avoid it if I could. Also mine grew back with the same split since it was injured at the bed so it was really done for no reason.

Re: Toenail removal
I had parts of my toenails surgically removed due to ingrown toenails.
It was the worst pain I have ever experienced.
They had to numb the big toes and when they put the needles in to numb it - OMG - it was so excruciating I immediately started crying. It was so unbelievably painful.
I didn't feel them remove part of the nail (it was a bloody shitshow though) and recovery wasn't painful.
Just the needles to numb. God-awful. I shudder thinking about it.

Re: Toenail removal
I had a toenail removed when I tripped wearing flip flops on the sidewalk. The toenail flipped off and was barely hanging on.
I went to a podiatrist and got it removed. It wasn't that bad. They numbed my toe before the needle went in. It was like getting a novacaine shot when you have a cavity. It pinches then the anesthetic kicks in.
It was a little weird not having a toe nail, but it grows in eventually.

Re: Toenail removal
Thanks everyone. I have seen a podiatrist. She said to put topical ointment or take oral meds. The oral meds affect your liver so I'm not too into it. Then I mentioned his. She said I could so I made the appointment. Only problem is it might not solve the problem. Only thing I worry about is the pain.

Re: Toenail removal
the lamisil is the antifungal medicine everyone wants to give you, but like you said, its digested/processed through your liver, so you need to have your blood monitored every month or something like that.
that is why my family dr. gave me the stuff called PENLAC. http://www.rxlist.com/penlac-drug.htm
it worked really well for my toenail.
maybe ask your dr. about that stuff?

what would this do for fungus?
i've had my big toenail removed. for me, it was painful for a day afterward. the doctor said i was an anomaly as most people don't feel anything. it wasn't horrible, just uncomfortable and took some advil. it took 6-8 months to grow back and it's normal now. i also took lamisil for a month so it would grow back clear.
if you truly have fungus, removing the whole nail is the best way to get a normal nail again. do it now while it's cold weather and your nail will grow back by next spring when it's time to wear open toed shoes again

That's what I'm thinking. Do u think it's the lacteal needle and operation that hurts most and then it's not so bad after?
