Tomorrow is my 3 week mark since my surgery...everything you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask!
I have spent years going back and forth on this decision and I am so glad I actually did it!
I arrived at the surgeons office 30 minutes before my appointment- the week prior I had meet with them again and reviewed everything
I was nervous- but confident
The have a separate area for pre- surgery - so you are not just in the waiting room- the whole time you are there- you do NOT see another patient
I was bought it- given a robe to change into and put in a chair with a heat pump (fantastic)
then the anathesiologist came over- and started my IV- that was the worst part
about 10 minutes later- the Dr came over (Dr. Adler) we reviewed everything again and I walked to the OR
From there the next thing I remeber is waking up
I woke up in a private area with a nurse- I was in pain, confused but ok
I was given some of my rxs (pre-filled) pain killer, muscle relaxer, anti- nausua
and she had my BF pull around back to take me home
Once I arrived home- I was ok for a few hour- then I passed out
when I woke up- I was in PAIN
this was the only time the pain was very intense
I took some pills and relaxed
Sleeping was not easy- I slept on the couch- almost sitting up (on my back)
the next 2 days were pretty much the same- I was in pain- but not crazy, I kind of looked freakish- but it was still early
The 4th day- I went to a post-op appointment- everything looked good- I went back home to rest
When I was home- I felt gross- bloated- I looked 6 months prego- (between the swelling the meds- I felt awful)
the 5th day- I went to work
NOT the best idea- I didn't feel right- driving was hard- I came home
The 6th- I stayed home to rest- best thing I ever did
the 7th day- EVERYTHING CHANGED- I finally felt better- I started to feel like myself - the bloating was going away- I had a waist again- I could sleep in my bed
Day 8 and 9- I stopped taking the pain killers- BIG Help- I was only taking them to sleep- but they made me feel awful
By day 14- I was feeling great
Tomorrow is day 21- the swelling is pretty much gone, I have been sleeping on my side for 3 or 4 nights
I am not taking anything- not even a muscle relaxer
I can honestly say once you make it thru week 1- you are fine
I thought I would be better after a day or 2- but it's major surgery- and you really need a week
they are still dropping and settling- which takes about 3 months- but according to the Doctor I have an A+ result and from the reactions from people that have seen them- I agree- I don't think they could be better!

It def is a major surgery and not something that ppl think you can bounce back in 2 days.
I have a few friends that have gone through this. I even got to see before/afters LOL
You are happy with your results and thats great!

Wow...thank you for sharing! I never considered it major surgery but it's something to really consider. In my mind, it was a few days of pain kind of thing.
Glad you're over the pain & feeling better!

Thanks Beth, it gives me hope to maybe one day when i have the money and guts to maybe have them done!
I am glad to hear you are healing nicely and i can't wait to see them

Everyone has a different reaction to the surgery.. on of my gf's had it done and couldn't even open a door knob..
Glad your recovery went well!!

I agree that everyone has a different reaction but it's great to hear your perspective! 2 of my closest girlfriends had them done and your story is similar to both of their reactions. Best of luck and continued A+ recovery!

that reminds me.....
I couldn't flush the toliet the first 3 days....I didn't try to open doors...when you go under the muscle- you are SORE

I had my surgery back in June 2008. I had similiar experiences with recovery. I still say (outside of the gastric) it was one of the best things I did for myself. After the weight loss (and losing most of my breast mass), I looked freakish and not myself. It gave me a renewed confidence I didn't know I had.
Congrats to the continued recovery and the new "you"

I had a tummy tuck a year and half ago and shared my story as well on here...I think its GREAT that you did that for yourself. Your experience was very similar to mine, just different parts of the body!!

Thanks for sharing. I had a major surgery a few years ago and even though there was a lot of pain, the worst part was that I felt weird knowing that I was awake when I went into the OR but could not remember anything because of one of the drugs that was in my IV. I guess I wish I knew that I'd be awake at some point but unable to remember it.
PS. I so want to see your results!

I could have written this post word for word! I'm glad to hear you are feeling much better.
Although you feel like they are dropping, they are, you are nowhere near your final result. There is still swelling and they are still up pretty high. I know I bought a whole bunch of bras at the 6 week mark that didn't fit right later. At the time you think you are very settled, but you arent. You will see once more time has passed. Don't go crazy spending hundreds at VS just yet, wait it out for at least 6 months before the big splurge. Once you are at the year mark, you will be settled and you will see pretty much your final result. These are things I wish someone had told me before I did it.
