Re: Took miki to the ENT doctor today
Both my boys had the tubes put in, and I was so worried, but it is not that bad. I am so glad we got it done, no more ear infections and they can hear much better. The hardest part was watching them put them to sleep and then waking up. They cried a lot, which is just the recovery from waking up from the anesthesia. After they went home and took a nap, it was like NOTHING happened. You will need to get ear plugs for her, when she takes a bath or goes in the pool. If you want more info, feel free to fm me.

I agree. DD had them put in at 20 months and DS just had them put in at 10 months. DD is going for her 2nd set next month. I let DH go in when they put DD to sleep because I couldn't do it. I had to do it with DS. It's really only 10 minutes and once they calm down after waking it's a regular day.
Although Diane my ENT never suggested ear plugs....makes sense. He said to just not submerge their head under soapy water (which I wouldn't do anyway), but washing, rinsing and swimming was fine. I'll have to ask again.
It's truly MUCH harder on the parents. Hugs to both of you

My ENT said the same thing. that surface swimming was fine and no plugs are needed for baths. Only if they are going to be submerged 3 feet under water or if they are going to have their head submerged in soapy water
Thanks everyone

Poor Mikayla! I am sure everything will go fine and she'll be better for it in the long run, it's just so hard to see our little ones go through these things

Re: Took miki to the ENT doctor today
Wow! I am so happy you posted this. My DD started day care in January and since starting she has had an ear infection every month. So PED referred us to ENT and she goes next week. I am praying that she doesnt have to get tubes or adenoids removed.....but reading your stories has given me some comfort and relief in the process should I have to endure it.
But we will be praying for you and your DD.

Re: Took miki to the ENT doctor today (UPDATED wtih question)
Aww, poor Miki!
Try not to worry too much. My nephew had this done a few months ago and seemed fine as soon as they got him home. The whole procedure took 15 minutes. I don't know much about the adenoids but a friend of mine's DD just had them done and she did really well.
Hang in there Mommy!

Re: Took miki to the ENT doctor today (UPDATED wtih question)
Nicholas couldn't take it in the operating room (it's not sterile). He held onto him while he was being loopy from the drink, then when they wheeled him away, I took it. I gave it right back to him when he came out.

that is what I thought, thanks
I am just unsure whether to get this for her a few days before the surgery and tell her about what is going to happen. How much info should I give her?

DD had her first set at 18 months and was clueless. Honestly they give them some drink that makes them loopy while you are in a room (before you go to the OR) so they really don't even know what is going on. DD is going for her second set this Friday (she's 2 1/2 now) and I'm not telling her anything other then she's going to the doctor to get her ears checked. I don't want to cause any anxiety. When she wakes up she will cry because she's confused. I don't believe there is any pain because they are literally off and playing like nothing happened by the time you get home. Which for us is less than 1 hour after the procedure.
I would just let her know she's going to the dr. to get her ears fixed. I believe that less is better. they are still too young to really understand and their imaginations are just starting and you don't want her to get scared.
She'll be ok
