Toothpicks - okay to put in oven?

I'm planning to make a stuffed cabbage leaf recipe and I think the leaves might loosen up while baking (they are rolled around the filling, which is a lentil/olive mixture)...I feel like a moron for asking this because I cook so much, but is it safe to spear them closed with a toothpick and bake them that way?

My mom used to tie the cabbage rolls with white sewing thread.

If you want to use the toothpicks, soak them in water for about 30 minutes, that should keep them from burning.

I thought about that, but in the past I've done that with other 'rolled'-type recipes and they don't all hold up well.

Maybe I overstuff!

You could also use a skewer (metal or wood type) if you have them.

Also, would you mind sharing your recipe? Lentils and olives are two of my favorite things Chat Icon

If you use little pieces of spaghetti it will cook into the cabbage rolls and then you may not even notice it was ever there.

toothpicks should be fine as long as you soak them prior to putting in oven
