Total Fitness Transformation?
Has anyone gone from one of those people that just works out to get by TO one of those people that ENJOYS getting fit and considers it like a hobby?
I work out, about four times a week - but I don't LIKE it and I feel like I never will. . .
Some of you seem to LOVE what you do - did you have a turning point OR was it just always like that for you??

Re: Total Fitness Transformation?
I always tolerated working out. Some activities I definitely loved more than others.
Right now I am big into running and biking. Signing up for a 5k definitely changed my behavior, my attitude and my love for running. Biking I just kind of fell into. Any way you look at it though I am a total convert - I absolutely LOVE to exercise.
I think the key is finding something you truly want to do. It's gotta be something worth your time or energy or you'll never want to put the effort into it.

Re: Total Fitness Transformation?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE working out - which is why I made a career out of it.
You're either going to love it or hate it. If you've ever worked out with a trainer, or taken a really intense class to see how far you can push yourself, you kind of get this feeling like "holy crap I am strong". And I think that's pretty empowering - most women are A LOT stronger than they know. Either that, or you'll feel like death - it's all mental.
There are also so many different ways to workout, you need to find something that you like doing and keeping doing it.

Thanks for replying!
I think my MAJOR obstacle is that I am VERY self conscious. I have never worked out in a gym or even gone running. My workouts include DVD/TV workouts or long "power walks."
I feel like I would really like running, but again - I am way too self conscious to start on my own.

Re: Total Fitness Transformation?
I love working out and didn't always.
it is the only time that I have for myself. I savor it. Sometimes I curse myself while I'm doing it, but overall, I love it.

I understand where you are coming from. I recently started running about 2 months ago and now I'm proud to be out there sweating and hitting the streets. DH recently started joining me and that has been great motivation, too.

Re: Total Fitness Transformation?
I can't say I love it, but I used to detest working out. I have definitely gotten better. I love pilates, but I am not crazy about cardio. I tolerate it.

Re: Total Fitness Transformation?
I was always into some type of fitness, whether it be running, yoga, aerobics, etc. I agree with Azad though. Since I did a 5K, I've become obsessed with racing and even more goal-oriented with my training. I've also become passionate about pilates because it has made me feel amazing and helped build my core muscles to a point where it's helped my running tremendously.
To answer you question, I'd have to say yes. I've done a total fitness transformation.

Re: Total Fitness Transformation?
It is great to hear that yes, a total transformation IS possible - I am trying to get "there."
I just wanted to make sure that everyone wasn't BORN into this way of thinking. I am the only member of my family who has any kind of fitness routine - it was never an important part of my life growing up so its an adjustment! I was also always skinny ( underweight) until recently so I never made the attempt.

I agree with this 100%. There are ENDLESS possibilities with 'working out' and you need to find the one you love. From day one I have loved going to a gym and weight training but hated doing cardio in the gym – but if I go outside I can do something ‘cardio’ based and I’ll love it. There are so many options, FM Reese, she’s so adventurous - I admire it SO MUCH about her – she tries everything, Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, pole Dancing, it’s great to do that and see what it is that you will love!
Thanks Kara!
I agree that working out doesn't have to be a chore. If you find something fun, and don't think of it as "working out" per say, you'll be amazed at how much progress you make and how much fun you have in the process.

Re: Total Fitness Transformation?
I was! Until DS was born and now I have trouble fitting working out into my life other than stroller walks and such. Good reason to stop temporarily though!
I started out going to the gym. At some point I bought a bicycle and started taking long rides around the city (I lived there at the time). After that, I added running to my routine. And later, swimming. I also like to hike, though even before DS, I didn't do that so frequently. The variety worked well for me--I got too bored going to the gym all the time, and classes never did much for me.
