Optional costs: Alarm Landscaper Cleaning Lady
We recently converted to gas. The bill has been around $150. Electric is usually around $40 in non AC months and can get has gotten as high as around $280 in the summer. I have CAC. I don't have to pay for sewer. Water bill comes like every 3 months and its around $30. Not sure about homeowners - I think we pay every 6 months - i have no idea . We have Fios - for cable, internet and phone and it's around $140.

Re: Total monthly costs for home ownership?
Stuff like water, electric, heating, etc are all seasonal so some months tend to be more than others.
But on average I pay the following monthly based on my Microsoft Money program.
Electirc: $200 Heating (Oil): $200 Water (I have sprinklers): $50 Cable/Phone/Internet: $120 Insurance: $70 Security: $35

Re: Total monthly costs for home ownership?
gas - 150-300 in winter/20-50 in the summer electricity - 100-300 (higher number for a/c) no sewer - cesspool water - 10 every 3 months. In the summer maybe it goes up to 75 for the 3 months insurance - ~100 cable/phone/internet - 110/20/50

Re: Total monthly costs for home ownership?
These costs depend on several factors. First, on location -- different areas cost different amounts. Also on season -- in the winter (especially holiday season) they bump up the electric and water costs. And lastly, on the size of your home. A 1700 sq. foot home costs a lot less in terms of water/electric/gas than say a 2400 sq. foot house.
Its going to be very difficult to get a good idea of what you'll be paying monthly from other people's costs.

If you do a search, a lot of these posts ask people to include the square footage of their homes, which can give you a more precise idea. Since we're not sure how big of a home we will end up buying, for our budget, I looked at a bunch of these posts and used the higher numbers to estimate our expenses, knowing that it might be a little less in reality - but we should be covered either way.

If you find any of the posts, could you please bump them? I searched with all different phrases but didn't come up with anything. TIA!

Re: Total monthly costs for home ownership?
How much is your: gas/electric bill (electric) = $75 sewer bill = $0 (septic) water bill = $50 (quarterly) homeowners insurance = included in mortgage cable/phone internet = (Cablevision triple play) = $149
Don't forget about what you pay every 6 months for car insurance (look into a deal where you save money for having your car & home insurance put together w/same company)
Also, student loans grocery bills (per week) = ours is $40/week
