Total spin off to the SHOT GUN post but when your kids go on play dates do you ask if the home has any guns ???
Mine are not yet at that age yet but will be really soon and we dont have guns in our house but is it unreasonable to ask the other childs parents / caregivers if one is in the home ????
and if one is whould that change your choice to have them play there ???

Yes, now that my oldest is in kindergarten and going on playdates at friends houses, I HAVE asked, and I have told moms of kids who have come here that there are no pets, smokers, or guns in my home.
My childs safety is my responsibility and I have the absolute right to know if there are any weapons at a home my child is spending time at.

I'll admit, thinking of LB with a gun got me a little turned on

This was discussed on the thread, I don't think anyone has a problem with that as they know how to lock up a gun properly

DD has been at playdates at several different houses. I know who has a gun and who doesn't. I also trust that for the homes where she is that guns are present the gun is locked separate and apart from the ammo which is also locked, and that in general my DD will have no access.

DS has only been to one friend's house, and I know they don't have a gun, but I wouldn't have an issue if there was a gun in the house, as long as it was secured properly. A properly secured weapon is probably safer than having electrical outlets or stairs in the house..... (I'm not going to get into a debate about that, just saying that I think a properly locked weapon is pretty secure... )

yes, DH and i are both in law enforcement. as RESPONSIBLE parents, as soon as we get home, we secure both of our guns.
and i would be more than happy to show any concerned mother where and how the guns were kept safe.
