Totally bummed for my little man, ear infection related.
I posted the other day about tubes & criteria. I am just feeling really bummed for my little guy. He has had 6 double ear infections since Thanksgiving. We just went back to the ped today because his stomach is a MESS from the antibiotics he is on right now--even though he is on probiotics, BRAT diet, you name it. She had us stop the antibiotics even though his ears aren't clean and he has 4 more days. She wants his stomach to get better (diarrhea to stop and him to start eating again) before we attempt another antibiotic and she is hoping perhaps it will get better on its own. I just feel so down about this whole situation---I want my happy giggly little guy back now. Has anyone else had to stop antibiotics before an ear infection cleared? Did it clear? Thanks for listening,

we're right there with you- he just had his second double ear infection and they gave him augmentin- OMG, poor baby was never so sick. We discontinued on Saturday night (6 days early) and he has been his old self and playing and laughing since.
I hope your dc feels better

DS gets loads of ear infections, even after his tubes. He hasn't had a bad reaction to the medicine though. Have they tried the shot? I forget what it is called but maybe that would upset his stomach less?

Same thing happened to my son. I stopped it 5 days early because he was vomiting, not eating and having diarrhea. My Dr said he would probably be fine and he was. She also said if not we could try zpac because its 1X a day and gentler on the stomach. I honestly think the dose was too high for my son(1.5 tsp) since he had had it before at the 1 tsp amt and was fine-no issues

Re: Totally bummed for my little man, ear infection related.
sorry to hear! i know how you feel-my DS was plagued with ear infections forever too! we got tubes/adenoids out. since the tubes no infection BUT the real culprit turned out to be an allergy to milk and dairy foods! his ear infections and sinus/runny nose issues were actually his body reacting to the milk protein...go figure. he was 18 months when we figured this out. i post this on a lot of threads like this b/c i wish i had at least known that this was a slight possibility! i was at my wits end..good luck! and again, not saying this is what your DS's issue is but just keep it in mind. keep up with the good probiotics too!

Sorry to hear to hear about your little guy. We are there with you. DS has had 4 ear infections since february. It really stinks. Whenever he isn't himself I'm worried that he has one and it's always turned out that he did. Hope the little ones get better soon.

Wow, I keep hearing that milk and fairy can cause ear infections, either allergies or otherwise! Can I ask if DS had any problems with regular formula or other dairy before milk? I'm wondering if this could be a possibility with DS. I realized he started having ear infections about the time we took him off formula and switched to milk. He never had a problem with regular formula or any other dairy items.... I'm going to ask my ped at the recheck. Also, how did they determine allergy? And what do you give him now instead of milk and dairy? Sorry to hijack and all the questions.

Re: Totally bummed for my little man, ear infection related.
My DD has has a chronic ear infection for over 30 days..We had tried 3 different anitbiotics which did not work at all. So unfortunatley my poor baby had to get the shots of Rocephin. We had to go back everyday for 3 days. The second shot finnaly cleard it up. She still has fluid in her ear but its clear..We see the ENT next week to see if she will need tubes.
