Totally messed up laser tag party. WWYD?
This is the first time I am having a birthday party at a public place. Laser tag venue is HUGE with 5 party rooms. I both visited and called asking about the party. Teenage kid told me that Sat am time slot would be empty and that I just needed to call 2 weeks in advance with a headcount.
I mistakenly thought this meant that we could basically have as many people as we wanted like at Chuck E Cheese or bowling type place. I called today with some questions about drinks and laser maze. Supervisor told me that they only have equipment for 48 players and there is another party booked at the time slot. That means I can only have a max of 24 players. I invited about 25 families but several families have more than 1 child including our own. I have 2 sets of twins.
Invitation went out and we already have 20 RSVPs. 4 of the kids are siblings including my younger child. I am waiting on about 8 kids.
WWYD? A. Change party to 11:45am time slot from 10:30am on same day so that you can reserve all 48 players. B. Change party to same time slot 1 week prior C. Say no siblings including to your personal family friends. Keep time slot and hope/pray that the other party is smaller and doesn't use all their gear. D. Lose $75 deposit and book elsewhere for time slot

It seems like a no brainer to me and go with Option A, unless I missed why the timing maybe an issue? I actually like the later time slot.

One of DS's closest friends from class is having a party at 2 on the same day.
I sent out invitation literally a few hours before she did.

Party is 2 hours.
I just spoke to the woman again. I may hand out laser maze and arcade tokens to younger kids. They can't be in the party room though once we hit my 24 max.
At the same time, she won't let me reserve a second room.
I may uninvite 2 of my very good friends. They are already coming to our house the next day for our other child's birthday party. They are coming to both our parties since they are good friends of mine. Ahhh. What a mess.

I think I would do none of the above and keep things the same as it seems if you change the time of your party you would be stepping on the toes of the classmates party which starts at 2. If your party is far out enough I would change the date. When is the party and when is your rsvp date? Its possible that not all 8 of the non responders will say yes-- they may all say no-- and you only need half of them to say no and you should be fine with your head count. Plus the other patry that is booked on the same day may be smaller like you said and then you will be fine. If all else fails and some of the kids cant do laser if there is stuff to do for the younger siblings other than lazer-- I would just find something for the younger kids to do during that time. I think you should be ok. As for not letting you in the party room-- I doubt anyone will count so if you have 1 or 2 over I am sure they wont kick them out of the party room!

I would say no siblings. I would tell your friends that if there is room for the children to participate after all of your child's friends come that you would be more than happy for them to play as well.
I will never understand when people get insulted that the older or younger sibling is not invited. I have a younger sibling and growing up when I had a birthday party she never was invited (or went) and vice versa

I think its fine to say no younger siblings if it is a classmate etc. BUt if you are inviting close family friends /family, I think its tough to exclude one sibling

Re: Totally messed up laser tag party. WWYD?
Same exact thing happened to my friend last week. She booked the biggest room in the place thinking she can have as many kids as she wanted too.
The week before she called to RSVP and went over her initial estimate they told her they didn't have enough equipment for all the kids only the kids she initially said she would have...she was like 4 over.
What she ended up doing was giving the siblings credit to the arcade. Everyone had a great time.
In your case I would choose A...

Ahh makes sense, if there isn't a lot of overlap I would stick with A. Next choice B.. I wouldn't disinvite people, I feel like that's rude, especially with close friends/family.

The arena for laser tag is massive, like 3 stories. I have never been to a laser tag party so I seriously thought it would be unlimited. It is like a big club! It could easily fit 100 people. I was planning to be totally inclusive of everyone including parents. I was so happy to finally have a party where I don't have to worry about headcount. Ugh.
I am not over my headcount yet. If I say no to the 3 siblings of classmates, I think I will be ok. 2 of my friends have younger kids who are not age appropriate anyways. I can hand them tokens for the arcade.
Host did say 24 is max for the room but I don't think our 1 host is going to be standing there counting people so hopefully everything works out. Crossing fingers.

I wouldn't do A as that would put everyone in a tough spot with the second party. If you need to have a few of the youngest stick to the arcade that may be my choice. HopefullyHopefully a few of the hold outs will say no and some could change to no due to illness anyway. Hopefully it works out.

I'd leave the party at the same time. It is too much of a headache to get in touch with all those parents and start changing things. Just talk to your friends (I'm sure they'd understand) and/or give out tokens.

This is what I'm going with. DH thinks I am unnecessarily stressing.
We got a ton of immediate RSVPs and now silent with the rest of the guest list. There are always a few people who don't respond. I sometimes follow up with them before the party. I just won't do that this year.
DH reminded me that there is always a sick kid or a kid who gets the time wrong or whatever. He thinks it will be fine. This is true. I just hate banking on that.
