Your engagement/wedding ring during labor and delivery? There's an obvious sentimental reason to, but I'm thinking of practicality. My fingers have been swollen recently and getting the rings on and off is a bit harder than usual - not impossible - just more difficult than usual. I'm thinking during labor, pushing, increased blood flow, IV fluids, etc. would really increase swelling. Also, the setting on my engagement ring is high - I don't want to scratch baby. I don't think I'd want to the wear them to the hospital only to take them off out of fear of misplacing them, but feel that delivering a child without wearing them is odd because of what they symbolize. I know, probably sounds weird! What are you planning on doing?

My water broke at midnight. The last thing I worried about was any jewelry. I barely got out of the house with my bag.

If your ring aren't really fitting now due to swelling I would take them off and put them away til after baby is born. If you end up swelling more they might get stuck and will need to be cut off.

No, I left my rings at home. 1. My fingers were swollen and 2. They're too valuable to have in the hospital.

I wore my wedding band until about a week before I delivered. My fingers were swollen just enough for it to be uncomfortable. I really wanted to wear them, but it was just easier to leave them at home.

Take them off and leave them home. You will be so swollen after delivery, it's not worth the chance of getting them cut off your fingers.

I went to the hospital right from work so I was wearing a necklace and just my wedding band bc my fingers were kinda swollen at the end. I believe I wore my wedding bad the entire time at the hospital!

On my finger where it's been for the last 18 years. I wore them threw vaginal delivery and a couple of Csections. To be honest I can't take them off reason why I was able to wear them through my Csections. They would just tape it.

I stopped wearing them at some point in my pregnancy bc of swelling and carpal tunnel. But I ended up so swollen during labor from all the fluids, they would have needed to cut them off if I was still wearing them.

No way.
They wouldn't have fit me anyway at that point with all my swelling.
To me they are just jewelry. I barely wear them anyway..

Nope, just because I'd be afraid of them getting lost. Not worth the risk IMO

I already stopped wearing my engagement ring because it was causing me pain. I imagine the wedding band won't be lasting me until delivery either at this rate!

No - I had to stop wearing my rings weeks before I delivered with both pregnancies from the swelling.

Re: Totally random, but are you planning on wearing......

No. The hospital specifically told me to not bring any valuables.

ETA: My rings fit my entire pregnancy and I did not swell after labor so I would have been fine, but I did not want to lose them.

I already had to take my wedding band and engagement ring off because my fingers are a little swollen and they were getting pretty tight. However I wear my necklace with my cross and St. Gerard charm all the time, I never take it off and plan on keeping it on for delivery. It will be very upsetting to me if they make me take it off when I deliver.

I didn't have to remove my necklace or earrings at all during my induction or during delivery. I did have to remove my bracelet and watch bc of the IV.

With my first pregnancy I didn't have any swelling so my rings fit up until the end. I went into labor on my own and gave my mom my e-ring before I went into the OR for my c-section. I swelled a lot after the surgery from the fluids, so I was glad I didn't have my e-ring on. I put it on a couple weeks after DS was born. Never worried about scratching him.

Now in my second pregnancy I've had a lot of swelling for at least a month already (with a month to go) so my e-ring is safely packed away. I still wear my wedding band, though that's getting tight, too.

If you're swelling now, I'd definitely take your ring(s) off and put them away safely. It's not worth having to have it cut off your finger!

my rings have been off for a while! My fingers are already too fat for them LOL. Plus I believe when I got to the hospital last time, they made me remove all jewelry.

No..you swell so much after birth esp with a c-section. Put it on a chain or leave it home is my advice.

Re: Totally random, but are you planning on wearing......

I never, ever swelled during my pregnancy - not even in my ninth month with a 100 degree heat wave... That being said, once I had my cesarean the stuff that they give you - whether it was the anesthetic or God knows, but whatever it was did make my fingers swell - not crazy but enough that my rings would have been an issue. They made me take everything off anyway but thankfully I had left the rings at home anyway.

So, my concern is that even though you aren't swollen now and may not swell at all like I did - the delivery itself and what they give you could cause it.

It's the IV fluids they pump you with... makes you swell up like crazy.

Ahh that's what it was! I mean, I looked like a manatee and I only gained fifteen pounds with DS - It was all in my legs and arms... I left the hospital in my regular clothes and barely wore maternity clothes before I gave birth. Never swelled, wore high heels in my ninth month -- so if I could swell up and look like the walrus coo-coo-cachoo ANYONE can Chat Icon

Randomly, about three hours after the surgery/birth it all just went away - It was like thank GOD. Even my son came out swollen! His lips looked like he had them done! LOL!

I remember the next day sitting on the toilet and just peeing for like 10 minutes straight. No joke. It was the longest piss I have ever taken in my life.
I was just peeing out all of those IV fluids, finally!
