totally TMI...nipple talk
Today Im 38 weeks. Went to pick up a nursing bra...which Im not understanding the concept of...why not just pull down my bra But...I was looking in the mirror and noticed my nipples are SO unattractive right now. It seems like maybe its dried milk...but the nipple itself is peeling a bit..but its not a dry skin peel...sorry but its almost like crusty (yick) Does this happen or are my nipples falling off?

Re: totally TMI...nipple talk
I don't have any advice since I'm not even close to being that far along.
I just wanted to say this... "Does this happen or are my nipples falling off?"....made me LOL. (assuming you were kidding and you really don't think your nips are falling off)

Re: totally TMI...nipple talk
You can put lansinoh cream on your nipples to keep them hydrated and well mousturized. It sounds like the skin on your nipples is dry!

Re: totally TMI...nipple talk
My nipples have been peeling for a couple of months. I was very scared when I first noticed it...

Re: totally TMI...nipple talk
I'm only 28 weeks, and mine have gotten a lot darker,so I guess now I can expect some peeling too. Awesome.

Re: totally TMI...nipple talk
It is common as your skin sensitivity will change. Like a PP said, Lanisoh cream is perfect for this.
And also, you definitely want to get a nursing bra. A traditional bra can either get in the way of how your DC is facing when latched, or can pinch or crimp the breast when feeding, which is neither good for you nor the baby.

Re: totally TMI...nipple talk
I had that also with this baby. It was actually a little colostrum leaking out but I never saw it actually wet. I had not had that with the first two babies.

Where do you get this Lanisoh cream from? I should put it on before the baby starts nursing?

Hmm, that's interesting. I've been having the "peeling" look too, but I'm getting nervous that my milk isn't coming in. I'm only 34 weeks and change, but I have a funny feeling my milk supply will be low because of my underactive thyroid.

Re: totally TMI...nipple talk
This happened to me from 26 weeks on. Its from dried colustrum. You're so close! Mrs. Rivera, early leaking has nothing to do with whether or not your milk will come in. But if you are also getting that flaky nipple look, you are probably leaking a bit and not even realizing it.

Good to know. This is something I've really been worrying about lately. Thanks for the reassurance.

I got the lansinoh cream at Target in the baby section. I'm sure you can get it in many pharmacy sections of different stores.
Its reomended to start using it before nursing if your nipples are getting dry to help keep them well moisturized and PREVENT problems!
