To answer my question, I have two bath towels that I use for the week.

I'm asking b/c my mom is coming for a visit and I don't think I will have a dryer by then and I told her that she will have to use the towel more than once. I just don't have the space in my apartment to dry them. She thinks I am crazy.

Tell her using the towel for a week is the European way. It works for my parents!!!

Re: Towel washing

i change out the towels every week when i clean the bathrooms. granted, i have 2 towels on a rack and i use them; dh uses the bathroom upstairs with his own towels.

so i alternate between the 2 towels hanging on the rack for the week.

i have no patience for changing towels every day and doing all that laundry. thats crazy!

I tried that when she visited me in Australia last time. The water costs are $$$$ and hearing her whinge after two days was enough for me to just wash her towels. However, I had a dryer then.

She'll just have to live. I haven't seen her for a year and a half. I refuse to spend that time doing laundry.

A lot. You are clean when you use it and usually you hang it out to air dry.
Waste of energy IMO.

Re: Towel washing

I change out our towels every 5 days or so...in the bathroom no one really uses, longer than that (just hand towels, very low usage, and no kids)...that's kind of the way I was raised to do it..I know it sounds funny..I've actually never given it much thought but you are using it on your CLEAN body...and only YOURS...plus we hang dry them RIGHT AWAY

When we are guests, we go by what the hosts do..one set for our visit, no sweat..we hang dry and use them until we leave...

Waste of energy, water, soap, time...

And puts a ton of wear & tear on your towels with all that washing.

Re: Towel washing

Hand towels often -- I just find they get gross so quickly (at least I think they are gross).

Bath Towels -- DH reuses his a few times, but I don't. I used to but the doctor told me to stop for a while when I having skin irriatation.

Now I am just in the habit of washing them after each use.

We use our bath towels for about a week or so - or until i decide they're not fresh anymore.
Washing after using just once is in my opinion a HUGE waste of time, energy and will wear out a nice towel too fast.

I really get amazed sometimes when i see on these threads the extreme level of cleanliness that some people have to live with - and before anyone gets upset.. I'm honestly not knocking anyone because it's not my business, nor do i care how anyone else lives their life in their own house.

I am always learning new things on here! I never knew that people DIDN'T wash their towels every use until LIF, plus a bunch of other things. I mean, I usually just see what my family does or my ILs and we are pretty similar. . . I don't really talk to my friends about their cleanliness or laundry habits so who knows what they do! I have a good friend who is (IMO) very extreme in her cleanliness and bathroom habits so we're always joking back and forth about these type of things. Until LIF, i thought she was the only one out there! Chat Icon
and of course.. she must think i'm an animal compared to how she lives Chat Icon
Funny how we're all so caught up in what we think is 'normal' when it really comes down to how you were raised and how much you decide to care about things like that

I guess I am in the minority here but we only use our towels for one shower and then they get washed....my theory has always been I don't want to wipe my face with the part of my towel that dried something else yesterday!!

our theory too Chat Icon

but when i am a guest in someone's home i will always hang the towel and unless they replace it i will use it for as long as it is there.

you should get these towels! Chat Icon

Tell her in advance. If she needs THAT many towels, she'll have to pack an extra bag. Chat Icon

Re: Towel washing

Once a week for a towel.
I'm drying off a clean body.
As long as it dries well and doesn't smell mildewish it's fine with me.
I can't be wasting water and power to wash a towel for me and one for my DH everytime we use it.

Washcloths-that is another story.
That is being used to wash a dirty body- one use and it gets washed.
