Towels and mildew question
I put clean towels in my bathroom every 2-3 days. After the first day, I've been noticing that they smell all mildewy I don't know what's causing this....we keep the window open about 3 inches so there's always fresh air and ventilation in there. Help!

Re: Towels and mildew question
Do you wash them in hot water and put them in the dryer right away?
If they are left for a bit in the washing machine that can happen.

Re: Towels and mildew question
If you dry them kind of folded over, the covered part takes longer to dry and mildew will grow. Also, check the wall behind the towels to make sure there isn't any mold.

Re: Towels and mildew question
I put a load of towels into the washer and forgot about them for about three days. It smelled gross and i have tried washing and drying them three times now and the smell has not gone away (just gotten less). Don't know if this could be it.

Re: Towels and mildew question
I wash them in warm water and then put them right in the dryer. I sometimes leave them in the dryer for a few hours. I'll check my closet.
Thanks!

Re: Towels and mildew question
After showering, try draping it over the shower rod so it's not bunched up and clumpy so some parts dry and others stay damp. That might be the cause of the smell. DH still does it and it drives me crazy.

Re: Towels and mildew question
Run your washer machine too maybe some back water got trapped in the lines somehow and was stinky.

Re: Towels and mildew question
This happens to our towels too...but only in the bathroom downstairs. It's much more moist down there...so, I don't think we really can do anything about it. There are no windows in that bathroom. I'm sorry I haven't really helped you at all...

Re: Towels and mildew question
Always make sure your towels are completely dry before you fold them or they will get that smell. Also, if you hang them on the door, it could be the door that's the problem that's developing mildew/mold from having the wet towel against it (the longer it takes something to fry, the worse it will be). It could also be mildew/mold in a closet if you're keeping them in there.

Re: Towels and mildew question
I used to have this problem too sometimes. If you put a cup of Baking Power in with your towels when you wash them it should get rid of the mildew smell.
