I have been, its not fun. But it is an ice breaker, then you see them again at the wedding and b-b-ques and such. Mine was for a co-worker, I don't know why I was invited, I was the only one from the office. I think it was due to the fact that I was also getting married at the time and she wanted to be invited to mine.

I would go. Obviously, this guest of honor wants you to be there - who cares if you know anyone else. I have friends from all different circles and many didn't know each other at my shower. It will make things nicer for the wedding!

I would go. I went to my friends baby shower and her family is from Chile...so not only did I not know anyone else but everyone spoke spanish the whole time. I had fun....but I had no idea what was going on

I went to one once, I was supposed to go with another friend, but she had a death in the family. I felt very awkward and I am not outgoing either. But this was a friend from HS and I would have felt very guilty if I'd bailed.

Yes. If everyone at my shower who didn't know anyone else had decided not to come I would have had a TINY shower.
I have one or two friends remaining from each "era" of my life, so not many people knew each other.
What really matters is your relationship with the guest of honor.

I have. In fact, I travelled upstate for it, and none of the bridal party was there, so I, as the youngest person, became the honorary bridal party member.
It was fine.

I am there for the guest of honor. I can make small talk with anyone and am comfortable by myself with other people nearby. So I would go and be happy for the guest of honor.

I do the same thing also if it turns out not to be that way I stay until she opens the gifts or if she takes a break between the gifts.
I meant enough to her to invite shies means enough for me to sacrifice a little of myself.

It depends on how close I am to the person. If it was a close friend, I would go, if it's a co-worker or someone who I am not that close to, I might skip it and send a gift.
I might not be the best judge though, since I am not a fan of showers and didn't have a wedding shower myself.

I would go. One of my coworkers didn't come to mine pretty mcuh because nmon e of our other co-workers could make it & I was a little upset by that.
But if you aren't close to the bride, that's another story.
