Re: Town Of Smithtown Residents
I got one yesterday to tell me that I did not get my application for STAR to them in time for this year, but they will hold it for next year.
I knew that was the case - but they were due March 2nd and we closed March 3rd!
Edited to ask if any Town of Smithtown residents have grieved or are grieving their taxes -- I really want to do this and try to do it myself.

They turn most, if not all applications for grievance, DOWN. You are better off using someone else.
My house proves positive that they dont look at a lot of them. My house was assessed at a market value of over $700K...my house is worth about $425K..it's a long story really.
I would contact Mark Lewis instead.

About what?
I grieved my taxes last year. We won and received the decrease in assessment. I got a letter today regarding the decrease but in it was referenced Section 510 of The Real Property Law. Essentially it states that if the town increases your assessment they have to send you out a letter at least 10 days prior to the Grievance Day.
But my assessment was decreased NOT increased.
The letter doesnt make a ton of sense. To me or to the Lawyer's office.
Im waiting for them to figure out what is going on...
I just wanted to know if anyone else got the letter and if so did they grieve their taxes last year.

No, I haven't gotten a letter. I was thinking of fighting them again since they are practically back to where I first started but I decided to wait for next year.
