Toys r us liquidating?

Did anyone hear this? I have almost 500 dollars in gift cards from my shower. Should I go and use them. What does this all mean

Re: Toys r us liquidating?

We had $50 in gift cards and just took dd yesterday to buy her first 2 wheeler.

It basically means they are thinking of closing all their stores

I’d personally use them if I were you. I’d be worried that if they announce they are closing that they might stop honoring gift cards. I have no idea if that’s even legal but I wouldn’t chance it.

Use them. I read an article, I’ll see if I can find it again, that said if negotiations don’t go well next week all stores will be closed by next Fri. I wouldn’t chance it.

Use them! I’ve been left with gift cards to many places unexpectedly.

If you have an infant I’d buy diapers and “big” things for later...water table, play kitchen, tricycle, maybe even a small backyard playset.

Yeah, I used mine yesterday, just in case.

Like PP, get those big things. The outdoor play house, easel, kitchen, even stock up on diapers and wipes.

we had $35 left on a card from DS christmas. He used it yesterday.

They cannot find a buyer or investor; and they cannot re-arrange their debt. so unless someone comes in to save them, most likely they will be closing all their stores.

Yes, it's been all over the news for weeks! They are most likely closing all locations. Literally, go today and use them.

Re: Toys r us liquidating?

I'm so incredibly sad about this. My girls are going to be heart broken. It really is an end to an era. There is no where to take your kids shopping for toys that will be devoted to kids. Used up our gift cards yesterday and the mood in the store was sad.

Word is they shut there doors for good this week. Wonder what they are going to do with all the merchandise? I'm still praying someone comes in and saves them but that is very unlikely.

Re: Toys r us liquidating?

Def go use them TODAY! Don't take any chances, they might stop accepting them tomorrow. I would run in and get a couple of big ticket items you can use down the line with your kids and boxes of diapers otherwise you'll spend forever in the store trying to reach that amount.

I know what you mean -- I have fond childhood memories of getting and using Toys R Us gift certificates with Geoffrey's face on them :)

There are some local toy stores around -- Little Switzerland in Huntington, Einstein's Attic in Northport, I know there's one in Seaford on Merrick Rd, too. Maybe they will see a boost in sales without a direct brick-and-mortar corporate competitor (besides the toy sections Target, Barnes and Noble, and Walmart).

My mom was just talking yesterday about the fond memories of letting us loose in there (especially with the old set up of aisles like a supermarket before they did the little cluster areas). I was getting teary-eyed. Our kids will never have that on that scale. The smaller stores just don’t have the scale, even if it is all toys.

Re: Toys r us liquidating?

My major life goal as a child was to win one of those sweepstakes and get 60 seconds to run through the store and fill my cart. I dreamed of that for like 10 years, lol.

Maybe if they have a big sale I can do that now?

I’m not surprised, I don’t find their locations convenient and they aren’t competitive in price to Walmart/Amazon.

I'm disappointed. I live near the commack one and it's so convenient and is great for birthday gifts. I love target, but their toy department doesn't compare. And amazon is great but to be honest, it still doesn't compare.

Crazy to think such a legendary store is closing.

Re: Toys r us liquidating?

We were at the Carle Place store today to use up DS's gift cards. It was still very well stocked. I feel bad for the people who will lose their jobs.

I went yesterday to finish up using our giftcards. I went a few weeks ago and used a bunch and bought DS 2's birthday presents (just in case something happened).

It was mobbed yesterday but, decently stocked. I kept on running into people I knew doing the same thing.

I'm not surprised they aren't doing well. They are pricier than other stores, their shipping stinks and every time I go in there - no matter when (well, except for Christmas time) I wait on line forever (except at Christmas since they have multiple lines open).

I am pretty sure I still have TRU GC's. Hoping they can still be used online if they close the stores.

I was curious about that. I wonder if they will go to an online only format.
That would be a good option for them. No overhead in the stores.

I read once they are in liquidation - they won't be honoring giftcards.

But I do think an online format may work for them - if they speed up their shipping.
